Rob Gioia drove Dan Angland, Ant Arbeeny and myself. It was great seeing Rob and Ant again and meeting Dan. Great conversation on the way down and back. The only bad thing was that my webpage at Webspawner had been down since Wendesday and of course I did not back it up. On Friday night it was still not up but there was a message that they were restoring webpages in alphabetical order. Of course mine starts with T. I had to go through a few sets by hand and jot down some numbers but I still had hope that my page would be up in the morning. When I went to bed I knew that they were at least up to K because Ken Goetsh page was back up but not up to M because of someone else I knew who's page was not up. I figured they had all night to get to the T's. I woke up and my page was still down. So I had to use my hand list and guess on some other sets. Of course when I got home on Saturday night my webpage was up and running. The lesson learned is to back it up. Anyway at Ft Washington I saw Fuge, Matt Heilenman and Ken Morganti who I had previously met at the December show. It was great to see those guys again. driving all the way. Andy's DS alter ego slipped a couple of e96s my way at
good obc prices. Thanks out to all the OBC'ers there...who really make the
show worth going to. Being without my own dupes box, I resisted raiding
others for the most part, but I have to thank Mattman for 3 64's off of a
very short list. My purchases were relatively small...a few t205's, t202's,
and some 64s. Not too many bargain boxes to dig through this time...either
that or OBC'ers got them all.

Also a few incoming packages to report.

Spike Glidden sends the first hit to the type list in quite a while...this
in the form of a 1938 Goudey thumb movie! Cool item I've nerver played with
before...just what the type set is all about. Thanks Spike!!!

Mike Rich also hits the type set...4 times!!! Goudey Wide Pen and Goudey
fine pens...and two diamond match books from different years. Thanks

Thanks guys.

OBCers --

Mac puts a smile on my face with a great T202 off of my Top Five list!! The
card features Barney Pelty, Bobby Wallace, and Billy Sullivan - the "Yiddish
Curver", a HOFer, and a No-Hit Wonder - great stuff! I can still smell the
Hassan scent if imagine hard enough. Has anyone ever done any research on
where all these factories were, for instance Factory 649 or Factory 30 of
Hassan? I'd be interesting to know whatever happened to some of them - I'm
sure they are long gone like some of the old ball parks. Thanks again for
the great card, Mac!

Take Care, Geno

My friends,

I want to start off by thanking all of the kind people who sent their
regards concerning the passing of my mother. Those words were greatly

With spring break quickly approaching, I will be devoting some time to my
favorite hobby, collecting pieces of cardboard and paper. This will include
sending out some long-overdue hits, as well as updating my page. With that
in mind, thanks need to go out to:

Bob Donaldson sends a SCP to for my 1960 Leaf set -- I think this is an
underappreciated set, and I love getting new cards for it -- thanks Bob!

Larry Gersbach brings some Canadian joy to my collection, as he offers three
OPC hits, including two 70s and a SCP from 69 -- thanks for thinking of me

Aaron Shirley sends a great mix of baseball and football my way, hitting me
with two 72 Kellogg's (including a Baseball Great Mickey Cochrane that is in
perfect OBC condition -- mud and all!) and five 72 Topps Football hits!
Aaron even works in a Carlton Fisk card for that binder! Thanks for the
great cards Aaron!

John Storman goes old school, sending a great looking 49 Bowman of Danny
Litwhiler! It is always nice to get a hit to that list John -- thanks!

TJ Valacak sends a couple of cards from the tail-end of the OBC era, hitting
my 79 Kellogg's list twice, including a Frank Tanana! Thanks for the DCP

Dan Austin, who claims to offer goodies toward our next swap -- GOODIES
INDEED -- and what great goodies they are! Between the sixteen Hostess
cards (with Fisk, Lynn and Neetles), the 15 77 cloth cards (with Blue, Cey
and Staub), and 10 65 OPCs (with a Cubs team card and Frank Howard), I am
going to have to dig deep to actually make this a fair swap! Thanks for
starting the ball rolling Dan!

Bob Bannon always manages to make my jaw drop, and his most recent flat was
no exception as it contained an amazing T206 of the White Sox Fielder Jones!
Thanks for a nearly 100 year classic hit -- amazing!

Brain Betza added a couple of 79 Kellogg's cards to my collection, including
another Frank Tanana (if anyone needs this card for their collection, let me
know -- its #55)! Thanks for the DCP Brian!

Double A -- Anthony Arbeeny -- must have a warehouse filled with vintage
basketball cards! That would explain how he is able to constantly send
great looking cards, this time hitting my 72-72 list with ten strikes and my
75-76 set with four more! He even throws in a couple of baseball hits,
sending a 63 Post Bill Moran and a 60 Fleer of Harry Heilmann! Thanks for
the great cards AA!

Mark Talbot is another one who must love making me feel guilty, as he again
puts me in debt as he hits my 1970 OPC set with a five pack of hits
(including a post season highlights card), adds four of those great Helmars,
and then hits my Carlton Fisk list with another Kellogg's card -- I am
tickled pink to get a new Fisk card, so Mark certainly made my day --

Mark Zentkovich sends a packed little flat, managing to fit three 1970
Posters (Campaneris, Willie Davis and Dierker), two Kellogg's (76 Hunter and
a 78 Rice) and a 76 SSPC of Dwight Evans in one tiny little envelope -- and
what a great little treasure trove it was! Thanks for the great cardboard

Be happy,

John Scott Gray

Hello All,

I must apologize for my very late acknowledgments to these fine traders. I have been involved with College course work over the past few weekends and many weekday nights have been consumed with reading and studying for this course. I still have tons of stuff to get out and have two more weekends to go - so this may be a bit slow. At any rate allow me to thank:

Shawn Adkins connects with a SCP from the `64 Topps set, a direct hit to the 10 and under list with a splendid specimen of Tigers backstop Bill Freehan. This is a very desired card here in SE Michigan with many Tiger fans still reminiscent of the `68 Tigers team. Very pleased with this one Shawn!!!

Ray Luurs sends me the neatest item - a tray from Burger Chef with (8) of the Texas Ranger discs intact (Ray grabbed the Rikalbert Blyleven disc for himself). I intend on leaving them in the tray - it really looks cool. Thanks for allowing me to snag this item after you got your prized item for your collecting Ray!!!

Today, Mike Rich met me at the Redford show and is often the tradition when we meet some cardboard exchanged hands. New to my collection are a couple more `69 Milton Bradley card, just a couple of nobodies; Pete Rose and Joe Morgan. Many thanks Mike, for the cards and your companionship. Also saw Ron Perry at the show and enjoyed catching up with him as well.

Finally, Ed Schott takes aim at the TOP 10 list and kills the `64 Topps Coin set with the addition of Eddie Mathews to my collection. I bought my first pack of cards in 1964 and remember flipping and pitching these coins, after many years on the chase it's great to put this set to bed. Ed your name lives on with official acknowledgment on my web page - Thanks so much!!!!

Guys - THANKS!!!! I can't make any assurances that I will get to sending stuff of thanking folks any quicker over the next few weeks but I intend on doing my best - BE WELL!!!

REGARDS ---------------------- MARK

on the ICING, a 71 Pete Rose! Yikes, THANKS ERIK!

March 13
JOHN HARRELL (Bama) sends a nice 5-pack of waiver wire claims,
including a 56 Topps Groth, 63 Post Ralph Terry, 69 Topps Piniella
rookie, and 72 Topps Kingman rookie=85 and my favorite in the bunch, a
60 Leaf Rehm Braves card.

And one more thing. I've been rather busy in my ministry lately, and
for a couple of weeks, cards have been put on hold, so to speak. I
haven't sent any out in at least 10 days, so I apologize to those who
were at the top of my list who haven't received anything yet. Right
now I have some work to do with cards for Rob Gioia and John Scott
Gray, a scorecard for Dave Hornish, and maybe even some early Lincoln
cents for Bob D'Angelo.

But what's bugging me more is that I feel like I've received cards
from someone and I have forgotten who it was, which means I would not
be able to post a thanks. Please, anyone, if you have sent me
something recently, let me know so I may do the polite and proper
thing by at least saying THANK YOU.

forgetful Aaron

Thanks are extended to:

Ed Schott for a 1961 short print Charlie Neal--and a couple of cards from his Colts box at a small local show last weekend. It is always good to chat with a fellow OBCer.

Which reminds me--I have been able to have lunch with Steve Rittenberg a couple of times over the last two weeks as he works up the street from me. On one of those occasions he handed me a 1962 Cowboys team card. On the other--he brought along Doug DeJong who was in town taking a look at the Naval Academy as a possible choice for his son. Great to meet another OBCer.

And not to be forgotten--thanks to TJ for a two goal frenzy from his puck waiver. One each from 69/70 and a 70/71 Topps hockey.

Thanks OBC--

Friday thanks out to Joel Freedman for a trio on the shortening 58 set.

Two of the cards deserve special comment, just on their oddness. Card
#268 (Granny Hamner) - well, the name Granny Hamner is odd enough to
start with, but what in the heck is Granny carrying around in his hip
pocket, a bag of baseballs? Shouldn't the photog have mentioned that
it makes him look deformed?

And #190, Red Schoendienst - Red is, according to the stats, 35 years
old in this picture - but according to the photographic evidence, he
is at least 76 years of age. He must have lived a hard life....

Thanks, Joel, always much appreciated.

John Scott Gray who lifts me up with a couple of "singles" from the 1940 Double Play set. John sent the #1 and #2 cards; Larry French and Vance page, push them side by side and you have the double play combination the set intended. Great hit(s) to a list that sees very little action JSG!!!

Randy Wilberg connects with my TOP 10 list by sending a `57 Topps card of Gail Harris. It must have been interesting going to the BIGS with a name like Gail? Randy brings my `57 set down to just (15) cards remaining. Thanks so much for the "extra" effort you took to hit my list Randy.

Tom Massimo starts me off on my 78-79 Topps hockey quest with a Canadian and a Sabre. Thanks!

Hi gang,
In a rare turn of events, I'm posting a thank you note on the same day as
a package arriving. Unfortunately, details can't be posted on this server, so
suffice it to say that St. Patrick's Day was last week, but I finally got me
Pot O' Gold, courtesy of Aaron Shirley. Aaron hits a UV set with almost a dozen
hits - something that probably hasn't happened since I busted packs (ahem)
five years ago. THANKS AARON!!
Also, I'd like to announce that through the magic of eBay, I've managed to
close out a couple other sets this week. I've completed my first and only
non-sport set with the addition of a group of lighthouse cards containing the
ever elusive Barnegat Light. This leaves a few leftovers though, so if you're
working on the set and care to claim (or even outright purchase) some dupes,
PLMK. Also rising to the rank of completed set is my 1965 Topps tallboy FB with
the addition of Willie Brown's SP RC (Thanks again to Mac for supplying the
Namath!) via another group lot purchase. This one also has a few stars from other
sets I've just started, but probably has a bunch of dupes that should be
recycled soon. I've also managed to score some hits to my difficult to hit T205
list (Gray w/stats), 63 Post (Kasko, Floyd Robinson, Aaron) and added a couple
tough 60 Leaf high numbers for good measure. I plan on putting together a decent
waiver wire list soon, so be on the lookout for that. TAYL,

Ken M

but still had work. So I go to work sick, and to say the least I was cranky.
OK Here is where the day turns. At 6pm we get a run for SMOKE from a
building, we arrive and OH YEAH there is smoke, oh yeah and a lot of it and some
fire too ok a lot of fire fire blowing out all the windows and every floor is
light up. Suddenly my sickness is cured...LOL I feel like a million bucks im
ready to fight this fire. OK skipping the rest of the details .....we put the
fire out, and it took quite some time, so after the job we were all beaten
up, so they gave us the rest of the night off, we all went to have a beer then
head home. I get home and what do i see, 3 packages awaiting me in my
kitchen. WOW this day went from horrible to one of the best.
ok so here is the thanx

Subject: Much Overdue Thanks

Between personal stuff and my ongoing search for a
promotion at work, several OBC envelopes arrived. All
were appreciated, but I haven't had a lot of time to
thank the senders. So here goes:

MATT HEILENMAN sends six cards...three from 1970
including a neatly trimmed Marichal AS and three semi
hi 1971s.

PETER MEAD chips in another six-pack...a couple of
1963 Topps, three 71s including a couple more semi-hi
#s and one from the birthyear set ('72).

SASSY SCHOENROCK may be inactive here, but she sends
an SCP that is extra special because it was a SET
KILLER! The 1969 Deckle Edge card of Jimmy Wynn makes
it my oldest complete set (and the first from before I
was born). Excellent!

FUGE ups the ante with three '64s and two '65s
including the sorely underrated Mickey Lolich.

ROB GIOIA takes a break from keeping buildings safe by
wrecking my wantlist. He sends a '56, a '58, an '59
Hank Sauer and three '60 Topps my way.

MIKE WIERZBICKI sends an SCP from one of my rarely hit
sets, the '53 Bowman B&W.

BAMA chips in a TCP...a '59, a really toothy picture
of Jim Kaat on a '65 Topps card and a '70 Marichal.

ARTHUR WAINWRIGHT knocks half a dozen from the '75
Mini list, including Carlton Fisk and Rusty Staub.

ED SCHOTT sends yet another envelope. This time, he
knocks 5 cards from 1960 (including Jim Piersall) and
another 4 from the '61 list.

BOB D'ANGELO finds one from my wantlist...a 1970 Topps
card that goes all the way back to the second-to-last
page in the binder.

Finally (but not the least), MIKE DIAMANTE sends one
of the 1957 Topps packages I've been reading about.
This one knocks 6 cards off that list, including Hank

Sorry for the delay in getting thanks out, and I hope
I haven't missed anybody.

Gary Mandell send three great hits to my vintage "44" collection (cards numbered

Andy Cook sends a 1923 Zeenut -- Blake of Seattle. It's always great to get
another Zeenut, especially a Seattle Zeenut. In his note, Andy mentionedthe
Zeenut but was completely silent about the other card in the envelope --

A month’s worth of packages to acknowledge. Sorry for the delay:

Andy Cook gets me started on another 1963 birth set with a Kahn’s Wieners
SCP of Bob Purkey. Thanks Andy!

T.J. Valacak sends over an SCP for the 1970 Fleer World Series set. The
White Sox beat the Giants in the 1917 series and it would be 89 years later
until they’d win again. Thanks T.J.!

Kit Okamuro hits the only shiny basketball set on my list. A “Worthy”
package indeed. More details mentioned elsewhere. Thanks Kit!

Bob Donaldson sent DVD’s of some classic baseball games. I’ve already
started watching the 1968 All Star game. Awesome Stuff!!!! Thanks Bob!

John Scott Gray does damage to the Helmar set with 7 including Joe Jackson
on Chicago. Thank JS!

Shawn Adkins hits the 1953 set with a dealer scum Johnny Logan and include
two very nice bonus cards from 1952 including Tommy Holmes. These are now
two of the nicest 52’s in my set. Thanks Shawn!

Todd Knowles sends his NCAA bounty with a couple of his precious Red Sox
cards. A 1955 Bowman of Frank Sullivan and a 1963 Jell-O of Yaz! Thanks

Peter Mead sends payment for Montana’s win over Nevada. Some pretty new
cards and one old card. A 1963 SP of Footballer Lou Michaels. Peter did
get some revenge when Bradley knocked off Pittsburgh. Thanks Peter!

My NCAA teams are now eliminated and I’ll be sending out my debts on Monday.
Good luck to those that are still left.

Hello All,

I had a few incoming items to report from Larry Gersbach and Mark Zentkovich that arrived here in Southeastern Michigan.

Larry helps me to celebrate the 1st Florida Gator victory in the NCAA Tournament poll over Southern Alabama with a SCP from the `72 Fleer Famous Feats set - Eddie Collins 6 steals in a game. Only one left in that set thanks to Larry - Thanks for the victory spoils!!!

Mark finds a SCP from the `51 Bowman set with Johnny VanderMeer - the back of the card celebrates his twin no-hitter feat of `38, very cool card. The `51 Bowman set is one of my favorites and does not get many hits but thanks to Mark I am one step closer.

Thanks fellas for your kindness and generosity - BE WELL!!!

Gary Mandell had an envelope with 4 hits to my 1952 Topps and 1953 Bowman lists (including some great old names like Micky Grasso and Jim Hegan).

Ahawn Adkins also passed out some (Helmar?) bottle caps with old-time baseball players on them.

Ray Luurs sent me a very unique package:

1) A Helmar Gandil, with a blank back. I am not sure whether to count this
as "scratched" or "unscratched."

2) The Helmar was sandwiched between two Leaf Diamond King puzzle sections,
featuring Warren Spahn. What I remember most about Warren Spahn was he used
to make the trip to Ebbets Field with the rest of his losing team, but he
would never pitch against the Dodgers, because they would kill him. He used
to just shag fly balls in the outfield during batting practice. My friends
and I would razz and heckle him the whole time, telling him what a big
fake he was. "Hey, Spahn.........if you're so good, how come you never pitch
against the Dodgers?" We would keep yelling at him until he looked atus,
and just shrugged his shoulders. After 1957, the Dodgers folded, and Spahn
and his team were able to win a pennant or two.

3) For some reason, Ray put his return address upside down on the envelope.
At first, I thought MY address was upside down, and I could not figure out
how it got delivered.

Thanks, Ray.

OBCers --

Coffee mogul Mike Diamanti puts his mug down long enough to send me a pair
of nice 1957s - Ned Garver and Jim Bolger! Garver is the only 20th century
pitcher to win 20 games for a team that lost 100 - the 1951 Browns. His
card also says he is 21-7 against the A's, which is impressive considering
he had a 97-108 record up to that time.

Funny thing about OBC - Mike's note is almost apologetic be saying it's "All
I have for you right now." The reason I say it's funny is because in what
other group would you get cards absolutely free, without asking, and a note
saying that he wishes he had more, while expecting nothing in return but
this email?!? OBC is definitely a breath of fresh air in my hectic day!
Thanks, my friend!
