Bama sends me HOFer Hoyt Wilhelm from the 1955 Redman All-Star Series with the tab. Only 49 more tabs and I can send off for my Baseball Cap. Very much appreciated BAMA! I'm not clear on the official OBC rules on collecting sets beyond "if you have one it's part of a type set, if you have 2 you are collecting the set." Now I do have several Redman's already, however they are part of my Tigers & HOM-HOF collections. That, along with the fact that Hoyt is a HOFer and I have a HOF collection I would think nullifies my obligation to collect the set. My only concern is the fact that none of my other Redman have tabs, however I don't think that constitutes a variation. Even if it did, since I only have one I can call it part of a type set. Besides I doubt that variations constitute a separate set, but then again, I probably don't know squat about the unwritten OBC rules. It had no less than TEN Red Man cards, each with the apropriate expiration date on the back to greatly help me along with that (borderline insane) quest. The cards also appear to be in pretty good shape, despite being over a half century old. Two M*A*S*H cards and two more Happy Days cards. Then 11 of the Target Dodgers 100th Anniversary cards, teh of which depict vintage-era Dodger players. Add to that thirteen very old looking Tobacco which all look to be from Europe. Most are the approximate size of T206 cards, but are of flowers, planes, flags, and other interesting weirdness. I've never seen anything like them. The coolest thing though, is that she sent 18 "cardboard ornaments," for lack of a better term. They're 1964-1968 Topps cards, all with a hole-punch near one of the top corners, so with a little hook-age, they can hang on the tree. Hi gang,
A puffy from Shawn Adkins arrived that crossed a couple names off the
Polar Bear T205 list: Carrigan and Rucker. The Rucker finished off a page in the
binder (except for Raymond, which may not exist with the PB back) after it was
liberated from it's plastic tomb. I guess it's also 'officially' the nicest
one I own. Carrigan played for the local Red Sox a century ago, while Rucker was
drafted by Brooklyn for the price of $500. I wonder if that's similar to the
Red Sox recent 'drafting fee' of $10 million they paid to the Japanese team?
Hmmm.... Anyway, THANKS SHAWN!! TAYL,

It's overdue but we aren't at fault. Tom Massimo helped me by sending 5 cards
for my 78T set including the Sweet Lou Whitaker RC, a Yount and Murphy's
second RC. It was post marked from NY (Tom's address) on Dec.6th. Oddlyenough
it was postmarked in Wilmington Delaware twice on Dec. 12th and Dec.15th.
That pretty good since I live in Wilmington. Too bad that I was unknowingly
waiting in Wilmington NC and not Delaware. I wonder how they ended
up getting routed through Wilmington Delaware TWICE. Don't they use thezip
code vs. the city name? Fortunately T Mo packaged them well and all arrived
just in time to enjoy Christmas at the beaches of NC.

Thanks Tom, I appreciate the surprise and will check your list soon.

A few years back, as I began to experience OBC dwindling wantlist

I got it down to 18 numbers, and one that posed an obstacle was that
annoying John Hilton rookie card (by the way, there is also some guy
named Schmidt on there too....)

And it is annoying now longer, as Larry Tipton, the Guru of OBC, the
only member of OBC to become a noun, takes the one remaining big hit
off the 73 list.

The generosity of the group is neverending, and my thanks to the Guru,

Seasons Greetings OBC--

I have to agree with Neal--I am not quite certain if my two daughters broke the land speed record tearing through a pile of Christmas presents--but they probably came close.

Next step for the Meads was to pick a charity to share a little fortune with--this year my daughters wanted to sponser a child through SOS Children's Villages. I think this one will probably be an annual rite too.

Last stop--and only because it was buried under a pile of other presents---a package from OBC's own coffeeman--Mike Dia-MONTE. Mike succeeded in truly surprising me--and bringing the little kid out in this cardboardaholic. Two 1953 Topps were inside Mike's puffy--Ted Kluszewski and none other than card #1 Jackie Robinson.

Christmas is a special time--and OBC is pretty special too.

All I know is it's a Georgia postmark, but not

The note included in the package states it is
from Santa's Elf. Well apparently he thought I
was a good boy this year because the package gave
the mailman a hernia.

Five sets were hit as follows:

1962 Posties-Dick Groat & Gene Stephens
1964 Topps Giants-Bob Gibson, Nellie Fox & John Romano.
1965 Topps-Dodger Rookies-Ferrara & Purdin
A's Rookies-Dickson & Monteagudo
Hamilton's (My home town) Joe Nuxhall
1968 Topps-Jim Ray RC, Wayne Causey & Tony Oliva AS
1973 Topps upgrades of Jarvis & Abernathy.
The elf also stated additional cards from Canada
(North Pole?) are still enroute.

Many tuff Hi #'s to several very short want lists.

Much appreciation to the anonymous Santa's Elf

Subject: Santa Mac delivers big time!

Happy Holidays OBC!
My OBC Santa turned out to be Mac Wubben, who sent a really nice package.
I waited until all my other gifts were opened, thinking I should save the best
for last and Mac definitely didn't disappoint. First was a long hand written
note explaining the meaning behind most of the cards he sent. One card was a
Red Man Nellie Fox with just enough of the paper on the back scratched away to
reveal the needed expiration date - the card comes via the first National
Convention I ever went to, which is also the first time Mac and I ever met up in
Atlanta. Next were several hits to one of my 9-set projects from just over 20
years ago, most of which polished off entire pages and left only 11 pages
(totaling 35 cards) to wipe out the whole list. Mac has single-handedly clobbered
most of that list already from a vending case he bought. The next card is one
of the ridiculously hard to find Kellogg's variations on my list. It has a
letter G written in ink on the back, obviously meaning the card is a GREAT
addition to my binder. The last two cards in the pack are for my 1962 set: Don
Blasingame and the "Manager's Dream" card featuring Willie and The Mick. This one
looks like it was used for BB practice and has been taped back together on the
back, but like they say. "I'd rather have a hole in the card than a hole in
the binder." Finally, sandwiched in a report on global warming effects in the
Arctic (which I couldn't find Mac's name in the credits) was what appeared to
be an original print of a 1934 fire at Fenway Park. The meaning behind the
photo is explained better in Mac's note, but basically it reminded him of what
sending cards like we do in OBC can mean to the people who receive them. THANKS
MAC for the great gifts!! I hope everyone is having a great day like I am. I'll
end this here, so I can read up on what everyone else got. TAYL,

Ken M

Wow, huge thanks out to Santa Jerry Coker!

Leading off is a really sweet September 1950 Sport magazine with Don Newcombe
on the cover. I love flipping through old magazines - the ads are big reminders
of the way things were, and there were less of them. Less ads, more
articles, and more in-depth articles. The articles were much more aboutthe
printed word, rather than a few paragraphs and huge color pictures. Awesome
magazine, Jerry - thanks!

Jerry will have to help me out with the bookmark that was in the magazine. Looks
kinda like a postcard, but smaller, blank back. Black & white print(with
a little sepia tone in it) of Harold "Pee Wee" Reese on the front. I've
got another card like this somewhere around, so any help in identification
would be wonderful.

Also in the package was a baker's dozen hits to my early '70s lists, virtually
all of which were nosebleeders: 1970 (Rusty Staub, Joe Niekro), 1971 (Gerry
Nyman) & 1972 (Reggie Jackson IA, high # team cards (Indians, Expos, Royals,
& Giants), Tim Foli, AL Rookie Stars (John Curtis, Rich Hinton & Mickey
Scott), Mike Epstein, Hal Breeden and Ted Uhlaender. 1972 is one of those
sets that I used to think was more of a pipe dream to finish that say the
1957 set I've been working on. There are sooo many cards in the set, and
sooo many high numbers. I'm down to 41, so I'd like think that it'll beput
to bed in the next couple of years. Thanks to Jerry, I'm much closer.

I hope this note finds everyone having a wonderful Christmas Day. Thanks for
brightening it, Jerry!

Hello All,

Taking a moment between holiday events here to report on the OBC Santa gift of one Jimmy "Catfish" Parker. The puffy was opened at precisely 12:01 EST and I was delighted to see a paperback book with Detroit Tiger Dennis Dale McLain gracing the cover of a book of stories featuring Baseball stars of 1969. the book actually published during spring training of `69 actually highlights stars of "1968", thus the McLain cover.
"Catfish" Santa places (3) book marks in the book where the author featured stories on McLain, Mickey Lolich and Willie Horton. The book marks also featured Detroit players with a `74 Team Checklist card of the home-town heroes, a `55 Bowman Football card of Lion Doak Walker and a `52 Topps back variation of Cincinnati Reds catcher Andy Seminick who having come from Elizabethton, TN lives in "Catfish's" neck of the woods.
Well the doorbell is ringing, which means that my family has arrived for Christmas dinner which we have been preparing since early this morning. So I will sign off. Happy Holiday's to all and a special thanks to Jimmy for a very thoughtful OBC Santa surprise. BE WELL!!!

Hi gang,

Many thanks to my OBC Santa, Gersh!

What a haul it was, too. Gersh sends along a fabulous mix of 1950s cards, plus one from the '60. He starts off with a pair of 1951 Bowman cards -- Alvin Dark and Johnny Hopp. Then, a 1954 Topps card of Johnny Riddle, and a 1955 Bowman of umpire Hal Dixon. Finally, a 1961 Nu-Scoops card with a 1950s theme, as it honors Jackie Robinson.

What a great selection! Gersh, I am indebted to you greatly.

Merry Christmas to all!

For the last six years, my wife and I have travelled to Tucson
Arizona to spend Christmas with her family. As usual, we are
spoiled with great home cooked meals, plenty of good conversation,
and absolutely beautiful sights and weather. I love this place. If
they ever start paying teachers a decent salary in this state, I
would have tyo consider moving. Of course, that would mean leaving
what I consider the greatest city in the world - Chicago. Now, on
to Santa.

Santa delivered his package a few weeks ago, and I couldn't tell who
it was from from the outside of the package. I brought the gift
with me here to Tucson - I can't possibly wait until we get back
from vacation , could I? Well, the package reveals Mark Zentkovich
as my secret santa. Mark sends out hits to each of my sets from
1957 - 1966. He also includes some uv hits to my stickers sets. I
don't know what it is about those early 80 sets, but I just love
them. Actually, I know what it is. That was my heyday. Born in
72, started collecting in 78 and really got into it starting in 81.
I know this is uv stuff, but I love it. Thanks Mark!

To top off the CHristmas here in Arizona, my mother -in-law included
two packs of 2006 topps opening day to tear into. I know I don't
collect these, but the effort says it all.

To everyone out there in OBC land, enjoy the holiday season. Thanks
again for letting me be a part of this great group. I love it!

Merry Christmas all!

My Santa Randy Griffin sent along more than I expected! He gave me a really
great package to open, while my two boys opened their loot. First was a
1960 hi number and a few 1974 Topps footballs cards. And to make the gift all
the more better - he also sent a brochure from the Louisville Slugger Factory
tour and a "For the Love of Baseball Book" that has a very fun reading of the
ABC's of baseball Heroes (M went to Mays not Mantle).

Thanks Randy!

Somewhat belated Merry Christmas to the OBC gang from Oak Ridge TN where we are spending Christmas with my wife's oldest brother and his wife. Had a wonderful Christmas yesterday and am planning to hook up with Mark Atnip today for some baseball related fun.

My OBC Santa gift came across the pond from Santa Geno !! To start things off, a cool book "When Chicago Ruled Baseball". Now my first reaction was that it must be a work of fiction. However, when I noticed that it was about the 1906 WS...100 years ago, I realized that there could be something to it!! Can't wait to get started on it. Inside were a couple of Al Kaline bookmarks from Upper deck...awesome!!!

In addition was a cool little Player's Navy Cut cigarette box loaded with cards.... Birds, Flowers, Territorial Army Uniforms, Radio Stars, Lucky Charms (including a severred hand), and whaddayaknow ..... an American baseball player named William Bransfield of the Philadelphia Phillies!!

Thanks Santa Geno and here's to a great new year for all,

Subject: Thanks to Santa Mead! (with bonus rambles intertwined...)

It was a very Merry Christmas for the Moletas this year - My 2 year
old son "gets it" and it was so much fun to watch him tear into gifts
and react so excitedly to monster trucks, tents, and even clothes! Now
that he is finally napping, I can post about how much enjoyment I
also received courtesy of the Santa who resides on Eaglebeak in
Columbia, MD!

Included in my puffy was - first and foremost - a really thoughtful
letter explaining the choice of greeting card (featuring future OBCers
as kids mailing out vintage T206s and strip cards) as well as the
choice of collectible cards. Among those collectibles were a hit to my
70 tallboy set and a trio of Post cards knocking 1 more hit from each
of the three sets. I also got a great pair of 60's type cards: a
Peters Meats Twins card of Kralick and a card I've never even heard of
from the American tract society, a Christian Literature org in Oradell
NJ. Jerry Kindall is testifying to his embracing of Christianity as a
youth on the card reverse - a nice Christmas message - and Oradell NJ
is not far from where my parents grew up and where I was born!

This puffy was topped off by a true OBC classic, which I will
absolutely scan in at some point for full appreciation. It is a solid
hit to the 79T FB set that another Peter (Iversen) started me on
recently in the form of Terry Bradshaw...but only a 79T afficionado
would know that w/o looking at the back of this card! A description
won't do it justice, except to add what Santa Mead wrote to me that
"Only an OBCer can appreciate it - and enjoy a few laughs looking at
it" and he is so right - I laughed aloud at it for awhile.

Thanks Peter and to all of OBC - what a great gift we all have in this
group. OBC - You gotta love it!

My OBC Santa was none other than Jim Moleta. Jim sends me 7 completely
different and unique cards, and includes a one-pager that describes, explains,
and expounds on each of the 7 cards he sent me. Jim's thoughtfulness, humor,
and good taste shines through for me during the OBC part of Christmas.

Jim - I declare you THE MAN for 2006. You may wear this title proudly all
year. (TIME magazine recently names all of us, or "you", as the TIME personof
the year during their yearly naming of TIME's man or woman of the year. Yeah,
right, way to make a decision, TIME magazine.) If TIME can name all of us
"person of the year", I can certainly name Jim Moleta "The OBC Man" for 2006.
I might get a an argument or three from fellow OBCers, but hey, that's nuthin'
new, right?!

Happy Holidays to one and all, and a special Coupeville thanks to Jim Moleta,

Subject: catching up on some thanks

The post Christmas rush started off with Mark Talbot picking me up to
go to the 10th Annual Motor City Bowl featuring his Central Michigan
Chippewas thrashing Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders. Mark
brought over his collection of his 1977 Topps Cloth BB Puzzle pieces
for me to look at plus a few hits for the set myself. The set is now
listed. We had a balst at the game and I sat next to the CMU QBs
main squeeze. A cute little number who does not like FB.
Today's mail brought in major waiver claims from Erik Greenwood in
the form of a 1978 Burger King Yankee Chambliss, a 1964 Topps cards
with a Willie Davis front and a promo for the 1964 Topps coin set on
back. Really a neat card. Then Erik sent over 40 1976 & 1977
Twinkee cards. The 1976s are a set starter, over 1/4 of the set,
including Stargell and my HOMer Willie Horton. The 1977s included
Palmer & Seaver among 27 of the 61 I needed to complete my set.
Almost 1/2 the list wiped out. WOW!
Then Ken Morganti sent 6 1949 Bowman BB gray backs. All of the
numbers are actually varitions numbers, but 4 of them were cards i
had none of the versions of. As many of you know, getting multiple
hits as you get down there on a set is tough. I still need 56 49s,
but most are high numbers. Still a few commons left, but with help
like this they are shrinking fast. Another great package.
Thanks guys.

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to say a word of thanks to everyone in the group and
especially those individuals that have either traded with me or
simply sent some cards with nothing expected in return. I have a
sneaky suspicion that my mailman is already seeking a different route
(that doesn't include my house) because of all the extra puffies and
even boxes that he has been having to try to stuff into my mailbox on
nearly a daily basis.

I haven't said thanks earlier in a public manner as I was just
accepted into OBC and can now access the message boards. I have some
serious catching up to do in that respect, but wanted to simply jot a
quick note here thanking the many encouraging e-mails, IM's and that
sort of thing that I have seen over the past month.

I especially wanted to thank the following individuals for their
cardboard contributions to my ongoing addiction to vintage
cardboard: Bob D'Angelo, Jeff Delott, Joe Duffy, Larry Gersbach, Ken
Goetsch, Ray Luurs, Peter Mead, Ken Morganti, Ed Schott, T.J.
Valacak, and last but not least my sponser Mac Wubben. I look
forward to getting to know many of you in the future.

Subject: A visit to the Atnip archives !

On Tuesday, Mark Atnip and I got together for a couple hours at his place in
Oak Ridge, TN. Hopefully it won't be our last get together as, speaking for
myself at least, I had a great time. As I told Mark, it's amazing how a
mutual love for baseball can make the time go by so quickly and be so enjoyable
for someone (myself) who is not the most sociable of people !!

First I need to thank Mark for throwing his dups box wide open and sending me
home with about 25 assorted T's and W's that added to my type and T206 collection.
However, the tour and info that Mark sent me home with was evenbetter!!

Mark collects baseball recordings (in fact he's probably the authority on the
subject) and educated me on wax cylinders and old 78s in general and specifically
about baseball recordings. We listened to a few including the New
York Yankees Polka which arrived in the mail as I was about to leave. Infact
I may be among a select group of people to listen to it as Mark said he'll
probably record it and then file it on the bottom of everything else.....
it was bad !!!

Mark also has a vast knowledge of cards especially strip cards. He educated
me on alot of variations, some of which he brought to Bob Lemke's attention
for the Standard Catalog back in 2000. His own cards are some of those pictured
in the catalog. Cool stuff !!

I got to meet Mark's poor old dog Maestro and heard his parrot in another room
as well as hockey and radio stories highlighted by the saga of the Curse
of Buddy Biancalana. Certainly there was more worthy of mention but theyescape
me at the moment.

Mark.... thanks again, have a great New Year and keep me informed of your travels

BOB BANNON wishes me a Merry Christmas in the form of a SCP semi-hi #

Finally, KEN MORGANTI -- legendary throughout OBC for his long-winded
ramblings -- doesn't write a single word accompanying the envelope.
However, he speaks volumes with just two cards: a 1952 Topps card of
Preacher Roe (hitting my favorite set) and a surprise 1972 NFLPA cloth

Thanks to my OBC brethren for another great year...even though I've
been laying low hobby-wise throughout 2006. I hope to make up for

Hello All,

I have received a few post Christmas items to make note of so allow me to thanks Mac Wubben, Mike Rich and Linda Fitak.
Mac and I worked out a trade before the holiday and on Tuesday I was delighted to tear into the surprises Mac had in store for me. From my favorite pre-war set a back variation of boxer Dave Deshler for my T-218 quest, a BABE card a HOF'er from the `33 Goudey set (Al Simmons & Babe Herman), a `35 Goudey 4 in 1 (Deshong, Allen, Rolfe & Walker), a SCP Exhibit Saluations card of Dixie Walker, (6) `50 Bowman Baseball w/(5) tough low numbers Wehmeier, Garver, Bickford, Jones, Antonelli & Scheffing), a `53 Topps Baseball back variation of Connie Ryan, a `54 Bowman Baseball card of Wes Westrum, and the card that gets me to within 2 cards of completing my `62 Topps set Mickey Mantle (Mac also returned a couple of the `64 coins I sent his way). Thanks a lot Mac now to find a Brock RC and Uecker RC to finish this `62 baby off.
Mike spent some time with me on Tuesday evening as we went downtown to Ford Field to enjoy the 10 Annual Motor City Bowl. I currently attend Central Michigan as I pursue my second Master's degree so it was great to see the Chippewa's of CMU take down the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee. Even better to share the experience with a fellow sports enthusiast from OBC. Thanks Mike for a very enjoyable evening.
Linda sends a check - COOL!!!! Of course the check just covers cash I sent out for her via PayPal but hey it's cash. Thanks for the kind note Linda!!!!
To all in our fine organization I wish you and yours a peaceful, safe and Happy New Year!!! BE WELL!!!!

OBCers --

Due to a bit of a postal mixup, Ken's OBC Christmas gift arrived today. He
had told the mail dude that it was to go to the UK, which he took to be
Ukraine for some reason. Thank goodness, it eventually made it here - and a
week early since Cristmas in Eastern Orthodox Ukraine isn't until next week!
So, what could possibly be in this huge box??? This ramble is really long,
but it does involve Ken, so it's OK...

Gift #1 -- An APBA Football Game! For those of you old-timers, I used to
include APBA cards with every mailing I sent. My brother and I used to play
it all the time as kids, but somehow the game had disappeared and I still
had the cards. I finally ran out of them, but OBC banded together and
inundated my mailbox with all my old cards! I bet there are still some of
my cards in the back of some of your dupes boxes...

Gift #2 -- Inside the game were some envelopes. The first one has a note
reminiscing about the first time I met Ken at Ft Washington, followed by a
swap session at Joe Greco's house. Back then, I had a very easy list to hit
as it contained tons of Topps cards. Ken found my last list archived and
hit it with some great cards from 1952 - 1959! He says he hopes it inspires
me to add some more cards to my list, which I will someday. I have sent
about 99% of my cards home to my parents so I don't have to move them again.
Once I get out of the Air Force (in about four years), I'll finally have a
home for them. That's why I'm just concentrating on one set for the moment,
it's a lot easy to move one binder!

Gift #3 -- Ken goes to my HOMer for the next gem - a 1970 Ron Santo proof
card! I guess that's what it is, as it has a blank back. Hopefully I'll
have to get a new HOMer if Santo makes the Hall this year. He's getting
closer every time...and he definitely deserves it.

Gift #4 -- Ken says the next envelope is work related - sure enough, a bunch
of Topps Planes cards! I especially like the T-28, which must have been an
intimidating trainer in it's time, as it was a monster of an aircraft for
two people. It was the first one to stick the nose gear at the front
instead of being a tail dragger, which probably saved many young officers in
heavy crosswinds...

Gift #5 -- This card comes from a Vegas Ribfest swap via Joe Cerullo to
Ken's collection, and finally into mine - a 1936 National Chicle Stan Hack!
For the newer guys, we used to have a mysterious OBCer (maybe we still do)
who sent out incredibly generous packages (much like this one!) to
unsuspecting recipients. The address was always somewhere strange and was
only signed "Stan Hack." Ken reminds me of a drawing in Joe Greco's
basement that Kevin Lohse had put together with the grand prize being a cool
Hack card. Kevin had me draw the lucky winner - who just happened to be me!
I had a great time sitting by Kevin and John Ball at the Phillies game that
night - I miss them both.

Gift #6 -- If you're still with me, the last envelope was bigger, with an
ominous note saying "Open Last." Inside I find none other than a Ken
Morganti autographed '55 Bowman along with a T-3 Turkey Red reprint. Wait a
minute - that's not a reprint - it's a real Morganti! And the T-3 is real,
too!! I've never owned a Turkey Red until now - very cool! My wife was
quite impressed also, by both the autographed Ken card and the T-3 Gibson -
they'll both go into a spot of honor in my collection!

So how about that for an OBC Christmas present?!? Much like his rambles,
Ken really knows how to make somebody's day. Thanks for the memories, my
friend, and thanks for taking the time to put it all together. I always
look back on my OBC Christmas presents with a big smile, and this one is
definitely got me grinning!

As the good Dr. Ball used to say, a night of peace to you all...

I began to type this thank you out a few minutes ago, then it just
disappeared. Hopefully this is not a double post. Anyway, I
returned home yesterday from beautiful Tucson, Arizona to find a few
OBC packages in the mail. Thanks goes out to the following group

KEN MORGANTI - Ken sends out a 5 pack from the 62 set. The package
includes All-Star cards of McMillan, Roseboro, and HOFer Luis
Aparicio. Ken also includes two Babe Ruth Special cards. One of the
Ruth cards seems to have been chewed a bit by a canine collector. I
will never forget Christmas in 1983. I had received the 83 Topps
Traded set as one of my gifts. Walking into the living room one
afternoon, I saw the box and a few cards sitting by the couch - not
under the tree where I had left it. ANyway, our dog had decided to
check out my cards and put a few holes in some selected cards,
including the Strawberry. The Ruth card brings back that great
memory, although not so funny at the time.

BRIAN BETZA sends out two hits to my White Sox/Red SOx project with a
54 Billy Pierce, and a 53 Rogovin, both Bowmans. Brian also includes
two HOF UV hits.

BOB NEIL sends out a 9 pack. He hits my 63 set with five including
Skowron and Lollar. Bob also hits my 62 set with 4 hits including
Billy Pierce. Those are some great White Sox names right there.

ED PIKE sends out a waiver claim from the 59 set. A well-loved Ted
Kluszewskil. Ted actually looks like he is wearing a long sleeved t-
shirt underneath the Pirates vest.

MIKE RICH sends out a three pack. The first two are hits to my 62
set. In his note, Mike tells me that the 62's are cards he got from
a dealer who gives Mike his trashed cards. I have to tell you, other
than a few creases, these guys are beauties. Trash? I think not.
Mike also sends me a Claude Osteen Scratch off, which brings that set
down to 2.

Gentleman, thank you for brightening my day here in Chicago. I start
taking a look at lists and trying to return fire. Havea great
weekend and be safe.

A very thoughtful envelope arrived from Mark Talbot. Inside was a very nice holiday card from Mark Talbot. Inside that card was - you guessed it - more cards! A five pack of 1960 Topps including local legends Frank Malzone and Don Zimmer! Many thanks for ending my year on a high note Mark!

Happy Collecting...and Happy New Year!

Hi gang,
Last mail delivery of the year brings a couple more envelopes to
acknowledge (a couple of these did arrive earlier in the week and I didn't want to
start off the New Year with a pile of unthanked mail.) First, Mike Rich sends some
return fire in the form of a trio of Red Man hits, plus some 62's to help
along with that set. THANKS MIKE!!
Next up is James Moleta, who sends along a nice fat check to help me split
an eBay lot and also adds in a few more 62's. THANKS JAMES!!
Peter Mead only sends a SCP, but it's a beauty - the 1962 LL featuring the
M&M Boys, who knocked out a few dingers the season before. That made three
days in a row I got to add a Mantle card to the 1962 binder (OBC Santa sent the
Mantle/Mays, the regular card came in via eBay BIN and then this card). THANKS
One final note of thanks to everyone who took a look at my list this year,
even if you struck out looking. Don't worry, you're in good company. ;-)

A couple of packages showed up today to close out 2006.

James Moleta fills a few wholes in my 53 B&W set and adds a Tipton 52 Topps of Frank House. Thanks for the swap James--glad I could help the quest.

And my OBC Santa decides there are twelve days of Christmas. Mike Diamonte sends a beautiful 54 Bowman of Robin Roberts taking that set to three cards (Mays, Mantle and Don Larson). It has been a long time since the 54 Bowman set has been hit. Thanks again Mike.

Happy New Year OBC!!!

Can anyone else relate to getting home from work after a hard day and
finding a few OBC packages waiting to be ripped into? Well today
turned out to be one of those days. I found not only one, but two
packages staring at me just waiting for their turn.

The first was from an OBCer whom I have never heard from. What a
great surprise. Mike Rich goes and blindsides me (in a good way of
course) with a couple of early 70's Topps scratchoffs knocking my
list from 8 to 6. In addition, he hit my dwindling list of 1961 Nu
Card Scoops with the Rocky Colavito card. I love that set and am now
down to 5 more cards. In addition I got the personal touch with a 55
Bowman (OBC version) of Mike himself. Thanks so much Mike!!

Linda Fitak wanted to welcome me into OBC and oh what a welcome it
was. She hit my in two sets that I have never even delved into until
now. The first was a very nice 48 Bowman of Buddy Rosar. I love the
fact that this multiyear veteran was a policeman in the off season.
The other first was a 1948-49 Leaf Roy Smalley. In addition Linda
hit me with Bowmans from 53 and 55, 56 Topps, 62 Bell Dodger (Moon)
and a lot of very interesting cards including a bunch of non-sports
tobacco cards. Thanks so much Linda!

The last OBC card of the year 2006 comes from Holland...not Ansterdam
but North Carolina-- the home of MARK HOLLAND. Mark sends along a
1964 Duke Snider.

The card shows the Duke of Flatbush in his New York Mets uniform.
Though I'm sure the New York fans were glad to see Snider return to
that side of the East River again, it sure doesn't look the same.

Here's to a prosperous 2007 for all my fellow OBCers. I'm hoping to
be a little more active the new year than I was in '06.

Take care,

My main source for great cards is a local card shop bid board that
closes every Saturday.I have been getting the Milton Bradley and Topps
FB game cards on the board for 25 cents each.I enjoy including these
cards in packages to OBCers. Most of the cards sell on the bid board for
less than $1 but occasionally i will bid more if it is a good card.An
example is yesterday i was bidding on a 1956 topps Al Kaline. The bids
went over $1 and i had to bid $1.50 to win the card but i usually don't
like to pay over $1 for any card on the bid board. Also a few months
back there was a Duke Snider Morrell Meats i had to bid over $1 on to
win.I frequently win Bell Brands too and i got a Koufax and Alston for
$1 each or close to it a few months back. There is a Gil Hodges 53
Bowman on next weeks board i might be willing to go as high as $2 on.-
