Mike Wierzbicki also sends a 54 Bowman and a real nice 75 Hostess of Mickey Lolich.

Kevin Martens sends a 53 Topps SCP of Eddie Robinson and notes that we haven't traded.
Kevin, I'm not as active as I was many years ago, but I'm still plugging away.

BILL MALSON pitches in a couple of 1959 Topps to help

Finally, ROB GIOIA "burns" a few off my lists...one

Actually, it's George Scott for my 1967 Red Sox World Series Roster

a great rookie campaign for the BoSox, but only managed a .231 average for
the series while leading the Red Sox in ABs and triples during the classic.
While .231 doesn't seem very good, the Sox only hit .216 and the Cards hit
.223 - obviously a pitcher's series. Thanks for the great hit, Rob!

I got a couple packages in the mail today and I've ben negligent about at

Hank Aaron contest entry fee after he won Included with that was a "T205
mini". Topps has recently given collectors a different meaning for that term,
but this is an original (borderless) card. This one has the desirable (at
least by me) Polar Bear back. THANKS ERIK!!
Two puffies arrived today - the kind of thing that I don't mind when the
postman rings my doorbell and wakes me up. The first is a John Ball auction
donation from Steve Rittenber that he promised to send. THANKS for helping out
The other puffy is the reason for the title of this e-mail. My birthday
isn't for another 4-1/2 months, but Mike Rich has excellent timing nonetheless.
Arriving today on his 80th birthday is a Red Man card of Yogi Berra as well as
another 52 RM of Gil Coan - who according to his card celebrates his 81st
next Wednesday the 18th. Both cards have the seemingly tougher to find June 1st,
1953 expiration date... another one of my silly variation quests. THANKS MIKE!
Happy Birthday Yogi! TAYL,

the missing piece is not that big. I Wonder why a young kid would do
that, maybe he was watching a baseball game and John came up to bat

causing the small fan to take a bite out of the card in

Yes it was Mookie that allowed Knight to score the winning run, but it was a
wild pitch that allowed the Mets to tie it. Buckner has taken way too much
heat for that game, when Stanley and Schiraldi are the real culprets. The
correction comes for the next day. The Sunday game was a washout. I know these
dates very well because I got married as Bill Buckner kicked the ball. I was on
a runway heading to Florida PRAYING for a rainout, as I would miss the game.
And it did rain! Monday nite the Mets won as I stopped all Florida activity
to head back to the hotel. That was the first of my married fights with my
ex-wife :-)! And when I got home, my VCR had recorded "The Natural" which was
shown in place of the game. Just a perfect season! My video guy actually
incorporated Mookie's AB into my wedding video and my entire family celebrating the

Thanks to JOHN LEROUX for an SCP of Harry Dorish from
the 1954 Topps set (which may have been a waiver wire
but I'm not sure).

The card has a nice little story on the back about how
Harry was "unhappy" in 1952 because he had never had a
winning season. His manager taught him to throw a
changeup (presumably before the days of pitching
coaches) and he ended up with an 8-4 record and a 2.47

Taking a quick scroll through his lifetime record
through the '53 season, Harry had a 34-34 record and a
4.16 ERA. Considering Dorish had a 3.39 in '53...he
must have had a hard time keeping the runners on prior
to '52.

I sure miss the days of those neat little tidbits on
the backs of cards.

Take care,

I received 2 packages in the mail today. 1 from OBC and 1 from of my

finish a dupe set for me.
That was not the only set finished today as Ken Morganti sends the last
2 I need to finish my first Red Man base set. This is from 1952 with A
nice Schoendienst. I had just got this close a couple of weeks ago
with a couple pick ups in Toronto. For those who know about Red Mans,
they come with and without tabs and also with 2 different expiration
dates for an offer on the back. As most know by now, this will have to
be chased. So I will soon post a list of 52 Red Man for with tabs,
without tabs, and then the 2 different expiration dates. So 1 set down
and 3 more to go. Could anyone else besides an OBCer pursue such a
perverse goal? I know Ken is also chasing the date variations, and
Brett Domue wants a set with tabs, so I really am not alone.
Thanks so much Ken for giving me the incentive to once again dive off

Over the past few days I have received a few items I would like to give thanks for:

Anthony Arbeeny sends a 1/2 dozen beauts from `75 Topps Football and `74-75 Topps Basketball. In the mix are Pat Riley, Mike Bantom, Bird Averitt, Leader cards w/Kareem,Pistol Pete, McAdoo and Wilkens and a Jim Tyrer football card. Thanks Ant Man!!!

Finally, non-member Tom Massimo approached me to trade some stuff (I think he may be in Kevin Marten's Trading Bases group). I sent him some stuff and he countered with a dozen hits to my `79-80 Topps Hockey set. Tom seems like a nice enough trader and gets my thumbs-up if he should approach you for a trade.

Thanks to Anthony and Tom. I will be enjoying the Tigers/Diamondback game tomorrow - it is Polish/American Night at the park and my daughter will once again dance with her Polish dance troupe on the field prior to the game. It is an annual event that I take great delight in, it's a thrill for the both of us. BE WELL!!!

Seriously, I think you are REALLY onto something...let's see, collecting
SETS instead of singles or just team sets can increase the size of your

What's next ? Can I send a few 59's or a few 56's to get this exciting new

Hello All,

Time to thank a few traders for the incoming cardboard here in SE Michigan. First off Dan Angland sends out a couple of skeds - one from the Mets and one from the Long Island Ducks. Very interesting stuff Dan.

This weekend Mike Rich, Ron Perry and I met at the Redford show and of course Mike had a small pile of stuff for me. I pocketed a Canadian Sports Collector Magazine and a Major League Poster with all the Skeds for 2005. Mike also handed me a Charlton Canadian Baseball Price Guide Edition 3, this guide is much like the Beckett Annual but focuses in on Canadian Issues, what a great reference this will be. Then of course the cardboard, Mike found some "odds & ends" at the recent Toronto show and I get to take home an unmarked `69 OPC Checklist and a Bob Gibson card, from the `71 OPC list and card of Senator Jim Bunning in his playing days. Also along for the ride is a `62 Canadian Post card of Whitey Ford mislabeling his team as the LA Dodgers, now he would have been some addition to that pitching rotation!!! Finally, a `53 Redman card of Whitey Lockman and a `55 Bowman HI number of Dale Mitchell. Thanks again Mike - had a great time at the show and the Tiger game that wasn't, always a pleasure to get together with you.

To all of OBC I wish you the best - BE WELL!!!

The shocking and overwhelming package came from Brett Domue, who sends
10 prewar hockey cards, including some stars. These included OPC,
Hamilton, Canadian Gum, etc. There are 10 1933-37 hockey sets with 508
cards. I now have over 75 of them, so 15% done. And yes, I have a few
variation cards. 1 set comes in color background differences and 1

Thanks guys for the tremendous hits. 1 set down and probably time to

Andy Cook sends along four 58's, hoping they "aren't too rough". Well, they
are intact hence good enough for the ol' binder (actually the carboard box
right now). Thanks Andy!

And Don Rice sends along nine (count 'em!) 64 Topps, chock full of Dodgers

Well, once the regular Little League season ends in three weeks, I'll be
