My quest to complete the world's most off-condition '55 Bowman set just took a licking. Robert Pigeon sent along a MICKEY MANTLE! The original corners have moved on to a better place, and this one now technically has eight corners. Since Guru's Guide avows every Mantle card is Gem Mint, the overall grade of this set just moved up a notch. Ed (Sling) Schott also delivered a TV, and along for the ride were two '56's and a '59 Hi#. It's always delightful to see one of those. Steve also hit me with 15 '61 Topps' with Cash ,Score and Howard. Brett Domue attacks me with some type cards, some of which I nevr thought Iwould own . 1 '58 Hires,2 National Chicle Fine Pens and a Goudey Wide Pen.Brett also hit me with a '59 Topps, 2 '66 Topps including Banks, and 3 '61Topps including Musial and Spahn. The Fugitive handed me some card when I picked him up in the morning, A '65Roberts and 7 hits to my '70 Topps football list, Nameth, Dawson, Tarkenton, Sayers , Page , Smith and Maynard. Wow , some awesome hits on what started ouyt as a bad day at Ft. Washington. Definately made my month. Thank you very much guys. Here's my Ft. Washington Report. Got to the Fuge's house about 6:45 . We hit the pike and got to McDonalds near the Expo center at about 7:45 . I was pretty excited about getting to the show but couldn't get the effects of McDonalds breakfast off my mind , Iknew at soem point I would be taking a sidebar . We headed out to the showand got there at 8:20 . There was a light rain falling and my window motoron my car was kaput. It wouldn't go up . Rick and me tried for awhile and I decided to tear my doorpanal off and try and put the window up maually. After a bit of struggling , I unbolted the windowe from the track and Rick pulled the window up while I jammed a wrench between the door supprt and thewindow. Problem temporarily solved. By this time it was about 9:25. we didour usual quick pass only stopping for a couple minutes at a few tables. Ifound some '65's I needed and a '61 Yaz for a good price. From then , it just seemed like one frustration after another, I guess I was still in a badmood from the morning. I got some odds and ends , nothing great . Lunch came and we all met at the tables in the cafeteria(if you want to call it that ). Swapped some cards with Andy Cook and Ken . From that point on things seemed better for me , had alot of fun as usual . After Lunch I found some descent deals and got my '69 Topps baseball set to within 4 cards. All in all the show was ok , not excellent , but ok. After words we (Andy, Brett, Steve, Ken, Rick and myself )met at a nearby Pizza place and talked and swapped cards. That was by far the best part of the day, I really enjoyed that. After that we hopped back to the pike and headed home. Thanks to all the guys at Ft. Washington for the cards , conversation and overall just makeing a bad day great. ================= Date: Mon, 8 Mar 2004 16:22:44 -0800 (PST) To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: Paul Biggs Subject: Thanks Matt! Fighting through the crowds I found Bill walking towards our meeting place and we welcomed each other. We chatted for about 20 minutes, then limped together towards Chuck Tangora's table. (I had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 5 months ago and it's been a real pain (no pun intended) to get around). Some of you western PA OBCers may know Chuck (New Brighton, PA), he's definitely an OBC friendly dealer. He handed me a stack of '59s from the 300 - 500 range and I started to pull a bunch. He made me a deal of $30 for the whole stack. Couldn't pass on that one. Bill and I were checking out Chuck's bargain boxes and talking at the same time. I also picked out some '67s and '75 minis. We checked out another table where Bill pulled the first stack of cards from this guy's $1 box that were packed in the box very tight. Thanks Bill for grabbing the first stack, my hands were sore from all the sorting at Chuck's table. I bought a '61 Maris and a couple semi hi '62s with the last of the money in my wallet. My spending was done for the day. We walked around and chatted a bit more, then said our goodbyes. I decided to write this to the thanks server because thanks always need to be given when joining the company of fellow OBCer's . Thanks Bill for the time we spent together and look forward to the next meeting - the National for sure along with a few others as well!! Is your PC infected? Brian opines that I have too few sets listed on my want list, and that I ought to be collecting Tacoma cards as Tacoma is closer to Olympia than Seattle. My reason for the Seattle preference is, of course, that I grew up in Seattle and was an avid Seattle Rainiers fan. Tacoma was that city to the Souththat smelled terrible. However, I have indeed been considering expanding my collecting to include other Washington minor league cards. In fact, I just picked up a 1961 Tacoma Giants team photo. The team that year includedGaylord Perry, and other recognizable players. Along with the photo came 3 1960 and 7 1961 National Bank of Washington cards of Tacoma Giants players, plus one 1961 Union Oil Tacoma Giants card. So, since some of you think I have too few sets listed I hereby declare that I am officially collecting the 1960 and 1961 Tacoma Giants National Bank of Washington cards, and the 1961 Tacoma Giants Union Oil cards.
