I can't even claim to have any ties, lifelong or otherwise, to the Tigers. I did recount memories of listening to Ernie Harwell broadcast Tiger games in the 1960s and 70's on WJR 770 (only radio station I could pick up on the shores of Lake Erie). That seemed to be enough for the guys from FOOT--because they pretty much adopted me for acouple of days. Mike Rich, Mark Talbot, Ron Perry, EEK and Mike's friend Mark showed up outside my hotel Tuesday with ticket vouchers and packages. Saw a well playedgame between the Tigers and the White Sox--some great defense and a numberHRs. Comerica is a neat park--with a great historical display of the Tigers depicted around the park. And the Tigers won to boot. Mike continues to rival Mr. Rittenberg as a set finisher--completing my 1979 Burger King Yankee set with a few hits including one of my favorites Roy White (Thurman was also in the mix). Mark Talbot hits me with a card he had been holding for a few months--a non-green tint Al Kaline and a stack of other stuff: hockey (Marcel Dionne), basketball (six stars to the 75-76 set), some early 60s football, and more early baseball-a 52 Topps black back,a Tipton mint 56 Dodger Team card, and a bunch more. Ron Perry cuts my OBC-only 1970 Fleer world series want list in half with a handful of hits. Great stuff--thanks to the members of FOOT! I think you have already heard the tales of the bakery in Greektown. The place was packed at 11:00 PM. I think if I dared eat Mike's favorite doublechocolate torte--I would have been up all night. Day two (Wednesday) found a co-worker driving me twenty minutes out of Detroit to the weekly card show at the Elks club. I only wish I could find a weekly show close by me in Maryland. I found four or five tables that had vintage stuff and even picked up a few deals--$1.25- 55 Bowman high numbers,a $2.00 1962 Jello Whitey Ford, and a few $3.00 Playballs. Also met up with EEK and Mike--sadly Mark couldn't make it to the show. Dinner followed the show--EEK had to drive the hour home and I headed to Mike's for about an You all know Mike has cards--I actually took about 30 minutes to look through the 62 green tint series. It was helpful to see both cards at the same time. Some of the greenies are tough to distinguish from the second printing. More cards traded hands--Mike handed over a 64 Kahn's Bill Virden and atype card autographed (at the National) Tito Francona 62 Baseball bucks. About that time Mark arrived to say goodbye in person. Apparently I had said something the night before about not having many 1952 Topps cards--so Mark went home and found four or five more to hand to me (along with a green tint Wally Post). Just so you know--there will be payback! About that time I pulled a couple of 74 Topps football stars from one of Mike's dupe boxes--leaving only a couple of commons and Terry Bradshaw on my list. On to the commons box--leaving only Bradshaw. On to the "BROWN" binder--the last remnants of Mike's days as a dealer--circa 1982. And wouldn'tyou know it--two 74 Bradshaws and another vintage set finished by the Oak Park If you have read this far--you should attempt to guess what prices Mike wasasking for back in 1982 for a 1960 Fleer Jack Kemp--or a 55 All American Jim Many thanks to all of FOOT--but specifically Mike, Mark, EEK and Ron for making another business trip to Detroit so much more than an empty hotel room. Mike also shared a `40 Playball card of Don Heffner to add to my slowly developing collection of "pre-war" cards. Always great to see you Mike and thanks again for the tic's to the Oct. 2nd game at Comerica Park. Kendall and I got to see the hometown heroes down the Devil Rays, followed by a great fireworks show after the game. So thanks for all. The worst part is that most of these cards arrived while I was on vacation and I had plenty of time to send out an e-mail acknowledging that fact. Anyway, a couple of thanks related to mini gatherings first. My two week vacation started with a trip to Ft. Washington. I stayed at former OBC'er Joe Greco's house and it's always a pleasure meeting up with his family. THANKS JOE!! While at the show, I also met up with a few OBC'ers including the ever present Steve Rittenberg, who no doubt handed me some cards from my list which I've forgotten which one they were specifically. THANKS STEVE!! I also got to meet up with Howard at the show as well as Mattman, Fuge, Ed Schott and Tim Newcomb at a swap session at the local pizza place (and probably a couple others too I think... darn old age setting in). They gave us a room all to ourselves upstairs like a mini National gathering. I certainly don't recall any card I might've pulled from anyone's box, but it's always a good time just hanging out with everyone looking through boxes of old cardboard. THANKS GUYS!! Ray Luurs treated me to breakfast and attended the Broncos game with me the day before my birthday (9/27). He also took me to a card shop, where I found plenty of hits to the Post cereal, hoop and 1964 Topps sets for a good price. He also didn't abandon me in Denver after I accidentally locked his keys in the car while we were in the card shop. (Just shows you what happens when you mix a country boy with one from the city who's had his car stolen before I guess). THANKS RAY!! The other meeting I had was with George and Lucy Hay, who took a trip up to Boston and the Cape. They also treated me to a nice dinner and I got to show off my collection a little beforehand. George also swapped a T205 Payne with a Polar Bear back for the crummy one I had in my binder. THANKS GEORGE!! Two other OBC'ers also visited Everett in the more traditional manner - via envelope. Kent Goto found one of the few lower numbers I didn't pick up out in Denver and sent it to me as a nice SCP hit when the mail was finally redelivered following my trip. THANKS KENT!! Finally, when I got home I think I sent out a pair of cards to Glenn Codere across the pond. Return fire, however, comes in the form of a pair from Geno Wagner. He seems to be finding cards missing from my 1964 Topps binder every other week or so. This envelope includes Tommy Harper and yet another Rookie Stars card (I think that's at least four that Geno's crossed off my list. THANKS GENO!! I think that catches me up to date with my inbounds. First, the whine. It's Friday night. I don't have to get up for work
tomorrow and can actually watch an entire playoff game until it ends--and
what happens?? It gets rained out!!! It isn't fair. But, it does give me a
chance to catch up on thanks.

First, a week overdue, thanks to Bob Corvello for a great, pre-punched
(not my first, and definitely won't be my last) 1951 Bowman of Tom
Saffell. Reading the back I saw something you won't ever see on a Barry
Bonds (or just about anyone else's) card these days--the old "Spent next 3
seasons in the service". line.

And David Mead makes my week with a half dozen great Canadian Post cards
from 1962. The Post cereal cards are special to me-I fondly remember
reading the backs of the boxes at the breakfast table, looking at the
stats, back in 62 and 63. Just a shame that I didn't think to save those
boxes! Same goes for all the jello we ate back then. Why oh why didn't I
save them?

Thanks to both Bob and David

And a headsup on the 1961 Post set. I finally got myself organized a rainy
Saturday a few weeks back and found that I have about 320 of the 350
different 1961 Post cereal cards. So, I've GOT to go after the entire
master set. Be watching for a variation list coming soon to a server near you.

Thanks go out this Sunday for some cards received this week. Specifically:
Thanks to PETER MEAD for a terrific puffy. Included were 6 Tall Boy
basketball cards from 70/71, and my first three 1953 Red man - as Peter says, I am now
officially collecting that set. Many thanks, Peter!

Thanks are also extended to JASON URSANER for a 1953 Topps. Jason mentioned
he had one for me in last sunday's chat, & by midweek it was here. Thanks for
thinking of me, Jason.

Hello All,

Peter Mead sends out a surprise package with more hits to my `62 Post Canadian Baseball set. Peter had already spanked the list pretty good on his recent visit to our fair city. He now reminds me that it is also good to get cardboard in the mail, he is right. With the (11) hits Peter sends including Early Wynn, Ted Klu, Willie Davis and Bob Friend, I am now well along the way on this set. It is indeed nice to receive them Peter, I'll have to get some stuff in the mail to "share the experience". Thanks Peter!!!

A nice envelope arrived from NEAL THOMAS, appropriately emblazoned with
a Red Sox logo on the return label. This appears to be my lucky
envelope, as the Sox have decided to at least make the dreaded Yankees
work for their seemingly predestined victory. After last night, the
envelope isn't going anywhere! At least not yet. Oh, Neal send a nice

KENT GOTO does some real damage to a couple sets today. First off, he
decimates my 1979 “OBC Only” set, with 21 hits, taking that one down to only
10 to go. Winfield, Stargell, and Guidry were among the highlights.
115(Ryan) 116(Ozzie) 155(DwEvans) 225(Gossage) 255(John) 308(Blyleven)
330(GBrett) 421(DeCinces) 520(GCarter) 706(Tigers rookies) are all that’s

Kent also took the opportunity to take out 37 of the remaining 44 cards on
my rarely mentioned 1985 list (sorry about that) including a number of big
names. Only 7 to go on this one.

Thanks for the great cards, Kent!!

Michael. Thanks Ed!

4 packages came through my letterbox in recent days.

DON RICE does some major damage to my recently added 1970 Football list with
25 hits including notables Page, Gabriel, and Barney.

BOB SAXTON sends some Lions my way….the 1961 variety to be precise,
including Karras and Schmidt. Also along for the ride were a ’72 and a ’74
football and 2 newer Red Wings cards.

Big thanks to both of you!!

The other two packages were ebay wins. The first was an autographed 8x10 of
Duke Sims in Tiger uniform from 1972. Sims was a major contributor during
the second half of that ’71 AL East championship team. The second were my
first 2 1953/54 Parkies Red Wings – Pronovost and Prystai. These are easily
the oldest cards in my hockey collection to date.
