that must be WWI, and he was still pitching in the majors 15 years after the war.
Must have been a tough guy. #132 Jim Elliott is a mini (there seems to be a

Subject: Apologies Big Time!
From: Lynn Miller
This has happened to me twice now in the past couple of weeks. The
first time I caught it before sending Thanks, but this time I didn't.
It's embarrassing to announce it and I feel really stupid for letting
it happen but I need to clear my conscience about it. I thanked Bob
Schaub today for sending me a tough vintage Hank Aaron 62 Topps Buck
item. It was still on my posted wantlist and still not-crossed off my
printed copy. Well when I went to put it away, guess what. There's one
already there. And of course it dawns on me that obviously someone sent
it to me and I just plain didn't log it. And I honestly don't remember
who sent it because if I had, I would have noted it when I crossed it
off my printed list like I do all the others. So I owe a big apology to
Bob for having put the effort and finances into getting it for me and I
owe an even bigger apology to the original sender for not publicly
acknowledging the first arrival and properly taking care of it. So
please let me know who you are, privately if you prefer, and I will
offer my sincere thanks. The other incident a week or so ago involved
Steve sending me a 1970 MLB Stamp of Hank that I already had also but
hadn't taken of the list. But I'm pretty sure I acquired that from
outside OBC (but then again maybe not). Steve didn't want it back so if
there is anyone who has a need for it please let me know. And Bob, I
will send the Bucks back to you if you like. Or if you have any other
person in mind for it, please let me know. I know I'm getting old, but
I didn't think I was getting senile this fast. As I told Steve, I will
just have to pay closer attention so that this does not ever happen
again. My wants are very tough now and it's not fair to others to make
that sort of effort for an idiot like me. I will be checking all my
lists at lease twice over the next couple of days to ensure they are
accurate now, which I should have done immediately after the mess-up
with Steve's item. So sorry again, Lynn

Subject: Great packages waiting for me at home!!!
To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com
From: WMDpks@aol.com
As some of you know, I've just returned from sixteen days in Raleigh, NC
(actually Research Triangle Park, sandwiched in between Raleigh and Durham) and
there were a bunch of OBC packages awaiting me. After I kissed my kids and wife
hello, (first things first) I tore into what turned out to be a monster haul
of hits to my above-average difficulty want list.
Steve Rittenberg went way overboard, as usual, with a significant addition to
my non-sports Indians (i.e. other than Cleveland or Atlanta): 9 different
T53's Indian Life in the 60's, 4 different T73 Hassan Cowboy Series (Buck Hero
and Bucking Bronco cards were about in Nr Mt condition!),
2 R73 1933 Goudey Indians, 4 R773 1941 Goudey Indians, an R701-14 1952 Bowman
Television & Radio Stars of NBC, 4 R701-15 1953 Bowman Stars of the National
Broadcasting Company, including one of the sweethearts of my youth, a very
young and beautiful-looking Audrey Meadows, who played Ralph Kramden's wife on
The Honeymooners - ("Bang, zoom, to the moon, Alice!"), 4 R185 Indian and
Western Series of 48 (very tough strip cards), 4 V101 Willard's Chocolates Indian
Series of 43, 2 R75 Indians, Cowboys, Western series cards, and tops it all off
with a "non-nonsport" pair of 1975 Topps Mini's: #1 Aaron Sets HR Mark and
Mantle/Wills MVP. This was an amazing package, and if I had come home from a card
show with that kind of merchandise I'd be really happy about it, so you can
imagine how good it felt to get it in the mail. Steve is the one most
responsible for really turning me on to collecting Indian cards, and it's due to him
that I'm as close as I am on the T53's and T73's - need less than 10 cards to
complete each of those beautiful 50-card sets.
Larry "Guru" Tipton, who was actually named after a card grade and not
vice-versa, sent me my OBC T-shirt (it's the third best piece of clothing in my
wardrobe) and one of the highest of the 1968 Topps Hi numbers, Fred Talbot (at
#577, there are only 21 cards higher than him).
Mark Zentkovich sends a beautiful 1970 Kelloggs Joe Morgan, which I've been
searching for over the past dozen years or so, and as I crossed that one off my
list it occurred to me that I'm getting very, very close on that set.
Joe Cerullo sends along a 1949 Bowman Wehmeier, a 1933 Goudey Whitehill, and
1962 Post Buhl and Zimmerman. These were all in absolutely beautiful
collectible condition, especially the 70-year-old Whitehill in very pleasant VG shape.
Since I wasn't finished with breakfast, Ken Morganti sends a bunch more 1962
Posties: Ashburn, Law, Sawatski, Pascual, and Kirkland. Little by little, I've
gotten closer and closer to finishing up those three early 1960's cereal
sets, and it's mostly thanks to OBC'ers over the years. (I still have the 1962
Gene Stevens from Larry Tipton, who sent it for my type card collection, on which
he had typed "You like type cards? Guru's Typed card!")
Thanks so much for a great homecoming present!

OBCers --
After a tough day of golfing, I arrived home to a pair of great envelopes:
McGowan: Sean sends a pair of 1933 Goudeys to brighten my diamal golf
score! Who wrote the back of these things? On Edmund (Bing) Miller's card
it says "He is well-named. Any time he hits a ball it goes places." What
in the world does that mean? Why is "Bing" a good name for that? And if
you hit a ball, isn't it always going to go places? It's a law of motion
or something like that. Maybe some guys hit balls that just stuck to their
bat back then...who knows! Thanks a ton, Sean!
Corvello: Friar renews the old trading ties with a batch of 1954 Bowman
minis! These are actually very cool in this trimmed down shape. I held up
a whole on and one of the neatly trimmed minis and asked my wife which set
she thought I should collect - she said the minis without realizing they
were the same thing! Very cool - thanks once again, my friend!
