First was a trade with non-OBCer Jay Zeiter from Ohio. May be able to rope him into our group, if we can make him a little less condition conscious. Jay sent along 2 of the final 3 1961 Nu-Card Scoops I needed, Richardson and Mays, leaving just #438 DiMaggio to complete the set. I am tryign to get some more of the Scoops from Jay for Brock and others in the group. After that is concluded I will pass along his E-mail to the rest of the group. LOL. On Thursday, before going to the Lions exhibition game, 3 packages showed up. The guy who I went to the game with, does not really collect cards, but enjoys looking at them. I let him open My "card mail". An Ebay win of 9 1952 Parkhurst BB, with Tipton backs for the most part. The last action I had on this set was a subtraction of Bobby Balcena to Dave Fallen a long time ago. Nice to see positive action on the set. Special OBC packages then were opened from Bob Donaldson who doubled my 1960 Nu-Card Hi-Lite collection from 2 to 4, including a Killerbrew. Along with these special cards were 2 cards i had never seen before. Cuban BB cards. 1 has been identified as a 1945-46 Caramelp Deportivo card. Anyone have any info, besides what is in teh Big Beckett, on this set? The other Cuban card has yet to be Id'd. I beleive it to be from 1947. #50 Gilberto Torres. Anyone know about this? A great package. Next package was a good luck for me 13 1936 Pen Cards. I think they are all Goudey Wide Pens, but a couple may be National Chicle Fine Pens. Some players are in both sets, and a coupel fo the signatures could go either way. If anyone has both versions of 16a Bridges (portrait) 50b Fox or 112a Moses (Portrait) please LMk if there is the usual difference in the signatures bewteen the Wide and Fine Pens. Another GREAT pacakge. On Friday, Sean McGowan completed our trade with a 1952 Topps high number. I think all 20 or so 1952 Topps high numbers I have have come from OBC, mainly by the dealer scum method, but a couple in trade. Thanks Sean. Brian Lindholme, knowing my love for the obscure sends an unopened pack of 1978 Burger King Yankees, with Billy Martin on top. I actually have this set listed on my OBC WL. So far I have resisted opening up the pack (only 3 cards and you can see top and bottom). If I get down to only 1 card, I may open this pack up. Meanwhile I will just store it witht he starter set. THanks everyone for the recent hits. Mike Rich ================= To: "Thanks" Subject: Late thanks Date: Mon, 2 Sep 2002 22:24:56 -0400 From: "Steve Rittenberg" As usual, I'm late with my thanks. So, if anyone has some extra Money from 1973, please keep me in mind :-) Happy Collecting! ================= Date: Thu, 5 Sep 2002 18:42:41 EDT Subject: Money lost...Money found! To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: friar4@aol.com That what I had the other day when I opened a humungous big package from Bob D'Angelo. In it I fould a nice note and . . . a terrific book (complete with an audio CD) about my favorite player of all time, Ted (Teddy Ballgame) Williams. It is entitled The Pursuit of Perfection: Ted Williams, and it is filled with tons of pictures, stories and artcles about Ted. I can't believe you sent that to me, Bob! I am just overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you. Also in the mail this week, I received a '62 Fleer Harry Heilmann and a '68 Topps game card of Frank Howard from old friend Doug DeJong. Hey Doug, do you remember just how big old Frank was? Thank you. In another package, Jeff Delott sends an SCP hi # '65. It is very seldom that I get a card from my own lifetime with a player I have never heard of. No. 529 in the '65 set is an exception to the rule. Any of you ever heard of Jerry Fosnow of the Twins? Not exactly an everyday kind of name. Thanks Jeff. Wow, what a week! ================= Date: Thu, 5 Sep 2002 19:17:44 EDT Subject: Many thanks!! In past years we were beaten by ten runs or more in most games buth this year games lost to both Cincinnati teams 8-12 and 6-8 both were lost in last at bat and the Fulton Mules beat us 3-5 when the scored 4 in the 3 rd inning and we kept leaving runner in scoring positions. I completed my birthyear set (1971) a few years back, am down to a handful of high numbers and stars on my '64 set. The '50s set I wanted to do, I wanted a challenge. I picked the '53 Bowman Black and White set. I had the Stengel only when I decided to start. This set turned out to be very tough. At the National a few years ago, I walked around with Rick Ellison and Steve Rittenberg for the better part of three hours total and could not find the last two cards. About six months ago I found the next to last card. Since then, I have scoured stores, catalogs, and ebay for #57 Pafko. Finally found one on ebay for $13 shipped. It turned out to be the most expensive of the set (I paid 11 for the Stengel and not more than 9 for any other card). I am happy to announce I got the card today and put the set to bed. Names found in the box include Hoyt Wilhelm, Dave Concepcion, Bill Mazeroski, Luis Aparicio and two cards of Bill "Spaceman" Lee. GENO WAGNER sends an envelope with two hits to my '70 wantlist, a '78 Winfield and an APBA card for Jim MIKE HAIR hits a few of my earlier wantlists, with 10 hits to my 1958 ("Dog Pound") set, six to the '59 Topps, a 1960 Gil McDougald, and three '62 woodies including Ed Mathews and a Kaline AS. JOHN COLLINS sends a stack of cards from my birthyear set (1972) -- 43 in all, including card #1, Kranepool and John Matlack's rookie card. From Poughkeepsie (where I was once the evening DJ for radio station WRWD), BRIAN DWYER sends hits to every set between 1970 and 1978, as well as 15 hits to my latter-day sets. One of the cards, a 1976 Traded card of Jim Crawford, completes that set (I've been one card away from that set since '89). Finally, props go out to ROBERT GIOIA, who sends 54 hits to my various 1970s wantlists. Highlights include a couple cards from 1973's nosebleed section, and another '76 Traded Jim Crawford (13 years needing that card, and I get two in consecutive days!). From Ebay some moe Hostess Panels, which seems to be seeing a lot of action lately, after laying dormant for years. In fact, Steve Rittenberg and Erik Greenwood both indicated they have more panels coming my way. Do we have other "panel, not singles" collectors out there? Bama checks in with another hit to the world ugliest set, 1949 MP & Co. Kozar. Kozar is 1 of the 3 unnumbered cards in the set. I now have 2 of the 3 unnumbered cards and 1/4 of the set as a whole. Thanks Bama and sorry your Tide got rolled by Oklohoma. Gary Mandell sends his part of a trade with the oddball stuff I love. 5 Bell Brand, including 1961 Alston and 1962 Snider. I have gone from no Bell Brand to 40% of the 1962 set in the last few months. Although this started off as a swap for the Bell Brands, Gary was able to obtain a large lot (70 caps) of Dodger and Angel Coke caps. Most of you know I love the Coke caps. The checklist I work off of, lists 488 caps. With the recent influx (there were 32 different, plus Fresca "variations which I do not count, but DO collect) I now have over 1/2 of the BB Coke caps. Previously I had 0 Dodger or Angel caps and to get 32 of 35 1967s in one fell swoop, was fantastic. If anyone has access to Coke caps, please LMK. Last week I gave a big Thanks to Erik Greenwood for a bunch of 1979 Hostess panels (remember he said he is sending me even more!). What I did not realize was that in the package were 2 1951 Berk Ross BB cards. They were stuck in the bottom of the package. I tend to recycle packages and when I went to reuse the package to send out to someone else, they fell out. Lucky I had not pitched the packaging. Made a fantastic package even better. OBCers --
I got pounded by three great OBCers!
Cerullo:  "New Guy" Joe used to pummel my list on a regular basis, and he's off to blazing start again with a T206 Buck Herzog, a '61 Fleer Travis Jackson, and a woodie Babe Ruth as a Boy!!  John McGraw traded Herzog three times, including after winning a third pennant with Buck at 3B and hitting .400 in the 1912 WS.  Awesome hits, Joe!
Storman:  John sends along a pair of very cool '51 Bowman cards of Ted Wilks and Bobby Adams!  Wilks was one of the premeir relievers out of the Cardinals bullpen in the late forties and early fifties, teaming with Al Brazle to post some very impressive win numbers.  Thanks for the hits on one of my favorite sets, John!
Morgan:  Getting an envelope from Howard is always an event that brings a smile to my face!  This time was no exception as Howard played Circuit City and enclosed four TVs!  They included Charlie Grim, Pete Runnels, Johnny Pesky, and an ump.  Why were those ump hats so ugly?  I liked when they started wearing normal hats with their names on them (why were so many of them named AL?)  Thanks once again, Howard, and tell the lovely Bets I said hello!
Take Care, Geno

Saul was one of 5 players who did not give permission to have his 1952 card reprinted. Not sure of the reason why. Lynn’s package also brought my 1951-1980 needs down to an even 800. Thanks Lynn! Greg Conway adds three hits to the 1954 Bowman set, Billy Hunter, Sid Gordon, and Jim Wilson. They’re even the correct size unlike many of the others I have. Thanks Greg! Keith Summers adds a nice 1954 SCP of Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm. Not only did he pitch in over 1000 major league games but according to the back of the card he won 107 games in the minors. OBC Friendly dealer, Kevin Savage sends ouot a box containing some 1940s Illlustrated Football magazines, Sportscaster cards, a 1981 Fleer Sticker set, as I try and figure out why I bid on this stuff. Recevied from Ebay another Ice King. This gives me 3, all are French versions. I understand there are all English versions as well. Other than OPCC I am not in any other card groups. However, I do occassionally swap with members of the other groups. Earlier this year I did a deal with Peter Mead of VCT? regarding some Loblaw Hockey stamps. Peter surprised me with a few more taking me down to 7 to go for the set. There are over 300 in the set and Peter is responsible for over 250 of them. Then last night I made my first visit to Chateau Talbot, aka Mark Talbot's house. Donna, aka the One Who must be Obeyed, made a tremendous dinner and allowed Mark and I to "play" with our BB cards for about 6 hours. I thought I had substantial dupes. It doesn't hold a candle to Mark's. Mark knowing my love for oddball material brought out multiple 5000 count boxes, filled almost exlusively with 1980s oddball, Bazooka, K-Mart, Cain's Tigers, Ralston Purina, Hostess, Drake's, Nestle's, etc. I picked up a stack. Mark also gave me 2 1949 Bowman, 2 Mecca Athlete & Prizefighter cards, 3 1978 Hostess Panels, 6 1966 Fleer BB Don Drysdale puzzle cards (I had to ID these for Mark and my first hits to that set in a long long time), 3 autographed cardsand some retro and hockey cards for my nephew. To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com, jgreco@us.imshealth.com From: cardclctor@aol.com Hi gang, Well, it would certainly be a great day to get six envelopes in the mail. Unfortunately, my reporting skills are less than desired and these have arrived over the last week or so. I guess that just means that I had six good days instead of one really fantastic day. Today's envelope comes from Dave Fallen who sent a 1961 Post of Jim Bunning plus four from a set I couldn't identify. They look like 1963 Topps, but have really sharp corners and gloss. I looked in my big book and couldn't find when a 1963 Topps reprint set was issued though. Coincidentally, a couple of them were on my wantlist. I put them in the binder until I can find a real 1963 THANKS DAVE!! New/old member Joe Cerullo sends a package with new/old cards. I can report a 1955 doubleheader from my recent request, plus a T205 gold border hit. I also got a couple unmentionable gold borders and a Warren Spahn to complete a(n insert) set I started almost 18 months ago. THANKS JOE!! Jerry Coker sent an SCP from the 1963 Topps set featuring Elston Howard. This one is different from the ones Dave sent me in that it's almost miscut, has a ton of wear on the surface and those 'child proof' corners like the rest of my set. THANKS JERRY!! Mike Rich sent me a Honus Wagner - stamp. Inside the package was his whole collection! ...of 71-72 basketball dupes. Three from that set, plus twice that number for the following year's set. THANKS MIKE!! It's been a long time since I got anything from Jim Cooper. So long in fact that I think someone should tell him the postal rates went up. Coop snuck an envelope with a 34 cent stamp past my ever observant mailman (luckily for Coop, he's on vacation this week). Piersall and the Giants team card both find places in my binder. THANKS COOP!! Lastly, the recently busy Howard Morgan finds a pair of T205's on my list in his dupes box. Howard also added in some hat money and a pair of oddballs - a 70-71 Dad's cookies hockey card (Ted Green of the B's) and some sort of exhibit card depicting the Braves' Jimmy Welsh. THANKS GRIZ!! Glad I finally caught up on my thank you notes. Now to update the old wantlist. Ft. Washington is just over two weeks away! OBCers --
Thanks to Erik Greenwood for a stack of sixties cards, all adorned with new teams, fake autographs, facial hair - you name it!  I had most of them, so I'm sure some will make there way throughout OBC land eventually.  A few I for sure didn't have were some 1961 Bell Brand Dodgers - a first for my collection.  Thanks for introducing me to some new cards and giving me some laughs at the other ones, Erik!

His former football coach is one of our close family friends. Since Rico was named after Rico Petrocelli and I have followed the Sox for about 45 years now, I really wanted a card of Rico in that special uniform, even if he was only with my team for a very short time. I had spoken to George about Rico before, so he understood my feelings. Anyhow, George sent me a package this week showing a 2001 Topps Rico in a Sox uniform - a card that I can put in a special place in my binders. Yesterday I received 2 more packages and they BOTH had Hostess panels. First, a package from Erik Greenwood, his 2nd this month. The first package was of 20 1979 Hostess Panels (plus a coupel of Berk Ross) and this time he includes more Hostess panels, including some needed 1978s and a 1977 Fidrych which will be forwarded to John McLaughlin soon. Also included were some 1977 Burger Chef Fun Food trays with (most) of the discs still attached. I had almost none of these and had never seen them dispplayed with some but not all of the discs on the box. Really a neat item and a jump start on another set. For good measure Erik added 3 1961 Bell Brand and a 1962 Bell Brand. Another issue that until a few months ago I had none, and now almost 1/2 a set of 1962 and a core of 1961. That package was a great surprise and was exciting and would in and of itself made for a fantastic OBC day, but in all honesty, got blown away by the package from Steve Rittenberg. Steve had told me he had done some shopping for me at the National. A few of these were dealer scum, but most were OBC send alongs, if not OBC condition. First he completes my 1964-65 Topps Tall Boy hockey set with Maurice Richard. Other hockey hits were a 1972-73 OPC insert Shield of Brad Park and m first prewar OPC card, a 1933-34 Series A #20 Lepine (well most of my first prewar OPC. card was trimmedin the top corners and where his name should go, was completely cut off. Who cares, a prewar OPC. Knowing that I like all sports, next was FB. A 1963 Fleer FB #68 Tobin Rote without the Red Strip variation. I am down to 2 variations in this difficult set. Then he sends along card #3 from my very favorite all time set, 1935 National Chicle FB. I now have 9 of the 36 cards. I have a goal of at least 1 a year, and this takes care of 2002. Then the BB cards came, after all this is OBaseballC. As mentioned a stack of Hostess panels, from the odd years, 1975, 1977 & 1979. I am now passed the 1/2 on 1979. Steve re-compltes the 1962 Topps Bb set with the regular variation of #162 Drake. I "blame" Steve for creating this want when he looked at my set and realized I had 2 green tints and no regular versions. I have not yet finished the impossible dream of Bowman and Topps and I am brought closer with hits like: 1948 Bowman BB #2 Blackwell 11 13 21 Fain (down to 20 to go); 1949 Bowman BB: 11 Boudreau 91 (almost 1/2 way in 1949); 1950 Bowman BB #160 Bucky Harris; 1953 Bowman B & W: 33 Kuzava (3 to go); 1953 Bowman Color (another favorite set): 121 Berra (7 to go); 1952 Topps BB: 33 Spahn black back and 88 Feller and 1953 Topps BB: 1 Jackie Robinson, 104 Berra & 280 Milton (down to 27 to go, less than Stars, Superstars, set completions, hits to favorite sets, sandwich cards (the first and last card in 1953 Topps)unbelievable. You outdid yourself Steve. The doctors are warning me about elevated blood pressure, but packages like these what do they expect. I am typing this almost 24 hours after opening the packages and I am still wound up. Hi gang,
Nine more days before I turn 36, but Lynn Miller sent my card early. (You
can't rely on mail getting here from the Phillipines, as I'm still waiting
for the last 50 hats to get here which he sent a few months ago). Lynn sent a
nice card within a card - an SCP of the Killer from the 67 set. This is the
last of the non-high numbers I need for the set and the only HOF'er left on
the list. Killebrew was one of the two vintage players I collected in my
youth - with Lynn's fav of Aaron being the other. This card will have a
special significance in my binder. THANKS LYNN!!
People at the Mandell Group have been working long and hard at finding
cards on OBC wantlists lately. I was beginning to wonder if they do any other
work there? I got hit with a thick envelope containing a baker's dozen
worth of hits to the 71-72 hoop set. THANKS GARY!!
Nine more days until my vacation starts at the Ft. Washington show. Anyone
wishing to celebrate my birthday with me can buy their own cake and ice
cream, but I'll probably be getting my own presents. Party hats (OBC
ballcaps) will be provided. TAYL,

Ken M

From: "mikesportsfan"

A number of packages in the last few days with some great stuff: Jim
Beauchemin sends some skeds and a Ticket stub to a Oneonto Tigers
game. The "Baby Tigers" do a lot better then the parent club.
Bill Malson sends some skeds and a 1961 Fleer Decal White Sox. I
love this oddball issue.
John Storman sends 9 OBC 1950 Bowman BB. This is significant as I
now need less than 100 in the set, and still about 1/3 are commons.
Thanks John for the magic trick of turning my 1968s into 1950s.
Gary Mandell hits the 1973 Topps Team checklist list with the Braves
with ** asterisk variation. 3 to go, before upgrading them to
Lynn Miller "thanks" me for a phone call with a 1955 Topps
Doubleheader and 199 different plus a few dupes of 1969 Milton
Bradley cards. WOW. About 60% of a set. I only had under 70 prior
to this. With these hits I now need 90 to complete. Talk about a
jump start on a set. Looks like this will have to go on the OBC list
Terry Nelson who I may have mentioned to a few of you sent along 55
hits to the 1961 Topps Stamps list, and based upon condition of a
few, he should be in OBC for the Tiptons. That set is also getting
close to making my OBC list.
Thanks everyone for all the hits. The regular issue Bowman & Topps
lists are getting so difficlt to hit (thanks again John. I need a
combined 436 with a goal of under 400 by years end) that if it was
not for the oddballs I would not see much action at all.

A pair of inbounds today. First off, Ed Schott blows me away with a
couple of 65 Red Sox and two nice 600 series hits to my 72 list.

Next, Lynn Miller, who surprises me with a birthday package about 5
months early :) 5 58s, including OBC Legend Don "Ears" Mossi; 7 hits
to the birthyear woody set including 'floating head' AL win leaders
card and a Luis Aparicio; 5 69s, including a Stargell and a Lou Brock
AS card that has a 69T decal of Luis Tiant stuck on the back...way
cool; and a 70T of Bill Russell.

Bill hit .356 for the Pioneer League's Ogden Dodgers back in 1966.
This is ironic because this year's Pioneer League champions, the Great
Falls Dodgers, announced the day after they won the pennant that the
Dodgers will no longer be affiliated with Great Falls, claiming they
wanted to move closer to their other minor league operations (all the
other minor league teams with the exception of AAA Las Vegas are in
Georgia or Florida). Well, it turns out they are moving to Ogden
Utah, which if I'm not mistaken, isn't a lot closer to Florida.

The good news is we will have a team in the Pioneer League next year.
The White Sox, Royals, and Brewers have all said they would be glad to
put a team here, and since I never really liked the Dodgers, I'm not
terribly upset. Nonetheless, it was a pretty crappy thing for the
Dodgers organization to do.

Oops, enough venting..

Thanks Lynn and Ed!

Subject: Very belated thanks!!!
To: mikesportsfan
From: Mark S Talbot

Hello All,

I must admit that I have been busy beyond belief and you people keep
sending me cardboard despite my very slow response to your overwhelming
generosity. In fact, I have not even had the time to thanks the fine
collectors who have presented me so many fine memories via cardboard. Let
me try to rectify that and give my gratitude to:

Sal Domino who sends me (10) hits to my `72 OPC Baseball set. I have
not received a hit on this set since Mike Rich went to the Toronto show many
months ago. Did I mention that one of the beauties that Sal sent along was
Boog Powell - I always liked the way Boog played the game - a towering
presence on the field. Thanks Sal - now I must update the OPCC site.

Linda Fitak hammers into the Topps list with a `52 Topps card of Merrill
Combs and a `56 Topps card of Bob Rush. Along for the ride was a Marylyn
Monroe card, one of her Target Dodgers cards (Heinie Manush) and a very cool
card of that most logical guy - Spock. Gee, I wonder why she picked that
card out for me. I loved the whole lot Linda - Thanks!!!

Erik Greenwood hits pay dirt with (3) direct hits to the `78 Hostess
list including Steve Carlton as well as a `75 Twinkee card of Ron Cey. I
have been slowly but surely getting closer to these sets and will no doubt
have to join my "oddball" collecting friend Mike Rich and add the panels
some day. In the meantime I thank you Erik for getting me a few cards

Lynn Miller sends me an early Birthday card - as he has done for many
OBC'ers. Inside the card was a nice sentiment for my Birthday and some
welcomed cardboard to boot. Lynn sends me (3) `63 Jello cards with Frank
Malzone, Bob Purkey and Dick Stuart. This is another set that has not seen
action in a long time and I was quite surprised to get them. Lynn also
included (3) cards of my HOM'er "Stormin Normin Cash" - from the all I can
get category a `62 Batting Leaders card and his All Star card and from the
`67 Topps set the Bengals Belters card featuring my Hero and Al Kaline. A
big tip of the cap to Lynn for the special Birthday greeting.

In an earlier ramble I believe Mike Rich talked about a nice visit we
had over here as I was able to entertain Mike for the first time in
beautiful Sterling Heights. Mike met my family, we ate dinner and then
spent hours looking at boxes of "oddball" stuff that I know he enjoys. Well
Mike walked out of here with plenty of dupes from those boxes because he sat
here and organized at least 2 of them and left me with a bunch of completed
or near completed "oddball" sets to enjoy in the weeks and months to come.
I was also the recipient of some handouts as well. Mike slide me a couple
Shakey Pizza cards, (2) very cool Norm Cash items - a Dell Publishing 5 X 7
and a Dearborn Convention offering. My eyes always light up when I get
obscure HOM items to add to the old collection. Then as I was pulling some
items that I had recently seen on Mike's list (`61 Fleer decals) I was
promptly informed that the two decals that I had completed a dupe set for
Mike which he promptly handed back to me giving me the complete set. Now
how do you like that - I hand him a couple and he hands me the whole set.
This was very cool because I had received many of these decals from my
cousin in 1964 and they have been in my collection ever since. Also in the
goodie bag was a neat "Ford Field" magnet and a copy of a Canadian price
guide which list many of the issues I had previously had no information
about. So thanks for the stuff and the complete set Mike.

Finally, Keith Summers allows me to claim off the wire a prize from the
`55 Bowman set - Umpire Frank Umont. To add to the fun Keith sends some
travelers - a dozen Tipton Mint Basketball cards that I am sure any OBC'er
could appreciate. They will fill some holes Keith and I love the Ump card,
Big Kudos!!!

I will say that I am never more happy to walk into the house and see a
letter or puffy from one of you fine people. It is always a great delight
and something that I look forward to. Thanks so much for the simple
pleasures you bring into my life each and every one of you. BE WELL!!!

Subject: reports of my demise have been (only slightly) exaggerated
From: "rbhankins"

Hello everyone,

I guess I first need to thank everyone for not kicking me out of the
group. I've been completely inactive for several months. As an
explanation, but not an excuse for my inexcusable non-communication,
I have had a few things going on in my life.

First, I started a project in California the third week of February.
My work is somewhat sensitive, but I will tell you that it was the
largest project of its kind in history. Although I was home on the
weekends, I needed to dedicate all of that time to my wife and
kiddos, so I didn't touch my cards. I kept the envelopes I got
you guys and kept telling myself I would catch up soon. My on-site
work in CA ended July 12. I decided to take a week off after that.
I had hoped to catch up on my thank you posts, update my wantlists,
and send out long overdue packages. However, two and one-half days
into my family vacation, I got a call and had to start another huge
project in San Antonio. That project ended on September 13.

Second, about the same time as the San Antonio project began, I
developed some curious physical symptoms that have required me to
have various types of medical tests every single week. So, I was in
San Antonio Monday through Thursday, and in doctor's offices
Friday. All appears to be well now, but it was time consuming to
deal with for a while there.

Third, some of you may recall that I came very close to changing law
firms last year. Well, I finally made the move. After months of
discussions with my now-former partners, I returned from San Antonio
on September 13 and announced my withdrawal from the firm. The
managing partner said: "Can we talk you out of this?" When
I said
no, he said: "Well, we will make it effective today." Who
have ever thought lawyers would be so cold? So, I started with my
new firm on Monday of this week. It's been hectic, but it's

Fourth, before I started this year's intense traveling, I did
to impregnate my lovely bride. She is due to deliver any day now.

So, it's been a rather crazy year, and my card collection is a
I hope to be able to stay in town more often for the rest of the
year, which will mean that I can catch up with the cards I should
have been sending out and the thanks I should have given.

Thanks Sal.

A 12 pack of 1972 & 1973 Slurpee cups arrived from OCTer? Vaughan
Kastor. Vaughan has been letting me swap cards for cups. I have
actually added these 2 sets to my OBC wl. Forgive the quick ramble,
but I think I may have the most eclectic sports list in the group.
It includes cards, coins (Salada, Armour, etc.), cups, caps (Coke),
pins (1955 Topps, anyone need a Fun Foods Pin Set?), cans (RC Cola,
Coke), stamps (61, 62 & 69 Topps), posters, matchbooks, publications,
plastic heads (Colgate hockey heads), etc. Now the Cups are on the

long enough to send me a 1952 Topps #11 Red Back (autographed by

the card. Along for the ride were 1/2 (3 of 6) 1969 Nabisco Team

bad starting rotation. I loved making progress on this set. It does
not see much action.
Thanks Dave!

A year or so ago I had contacted an Ebay bidder, Wayne Simmons, on
some oddball hockey cards. We E-mailed a few times and nothing came
of it, at the time. A few weeks ago, I E-ailed again, saying maybe
our lists had changed. I was able to help him out with 2 of 3 OPC
Deckle Edge Hockey he needed (Orr & Beliveau). I ended up getting a
pacakge on Wednesday with: 1969-70 OPC Hockey Stamps Berenson,
Giacomin, Ratelle; 1972-73 Quaker Oats hockey panel #46-50 Hull; the
last 7 Loblaw stamps I needed to complete my set (started earlier
this year by Don Metz I think); 1962-63 York 4 of 7 I needed; 1963-64
York 5 of 16; and then Topps hockey. I was down to 53 cards to
complete 1954-1984. I now need 32. He sent 21 of the 53 I needed.
Unbelievable. Highest recommendations for trading hockey for those

Hello fellow clubmates,

It's been a very busy time at the Cerullo household of late. For those that
are not aware, we have three boys under the age of seven and with this being
the first month of school, its been hectic, not to mention soccer practices
and games, (yadda yadda yadda). I have found time to send packages (over 30,
I think). So if I haven't hit your list yet, it's because you either have an
impossible list or I haven't hit your name with a dart yet. So keep checking
those mailboxes!!!

Now, I realize I also have a very tough list and when folks do manage to hit
it, I'm really very appreciative. Drum roll, please.

Lynn Miller - I left three years ago and you were sending cards like a
madman, things haven't changed much , Lynn hits with a 51B Lemon and 50B
Jansen, Thanks, bubblehead.

Jim Hatch - who I met at the national this year, hits with a 59 fleer of Ted

Bill Malson - who sends a SCP of Gene Woodling from the 54B set. It's a
Thanks Bill for a card which will make the rest of my 54B set jealous.

Dan Austin - who sends a ten-spot of 1960 Leaf. Has to be the most 60 Leaf I
ever have received in one pkg. Thanks Dan for taking a huge chunk out of
that list.

Mike Rich - who sends a welcoming pkg. of Bowmen that includes a 52B Lemon, a
couple of 54B including Joe Nuxhall (side note-when I first joined OBC I only
had around a hundred Bowmen in my collection and decided that I would send
them out to folks as a way to thank folks. My favorite card from the 54B set
was the Nuxxy, #76, just something about it, the colors the expression).
Anyway I'm so excited to have the card back in my collection, it really goes
to show that what goes around comes around. And to finish it off, Mark sends
three more from the 53BC list. Thanks Mike for the memories and cards.

take care fellow clubmates and if you have not received a pkg. from me yet,
it is only a matter of time, Joe

The host of the show was Johnny Bench who each week gave a lesson or two about baseball fundamentals to a group of kids. Each week also included a guest, such as Tommy Lasorda. It was really a neat show. I mention this because John Collins sent me an SCP that arrived today: a 1972 Johnny Bench! This is a beauty too - one of the nicest 1972's in my collection :-) After a couple of minutes I started thinking of The Baseball Bunch. To: cardguybaseball@yahoo.com, OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: XTrJmx@aol.com Hi all... I'm behind in my thanks and I'll catch up with old ones later this evening, but I wanted to get one out right away for the terrific package of cards that arrived today from Paul Biggs. They definitely took me on a 30 year trip back down memory lane (how can that be so LONG ago??!!!). Though Paul's screen monikor is cardguybaseball, there wasn't a baseball card in the bunch... just some glorious football and hockey cards!! The '72 football cards included the great Cowboys running back Calvin Hill, '49ers QB John Brodie and TE Ted Kwalick, and recaps of the NFC Semi-Final (49ers 24, Redskins 20... what a great game that was!), the NFC Championship Game (Cowboys 14, 49ers 3), and the AFC Championship Game where the Dolphins defense quashed Johnny Unitas' hope for a another championship. What great cards!! But wait... there's more! Paul also sent a tremendous handful of '71-72 OPC hockey cards, including a fantastic Brad Park All-Star card and a card of stud goalie Rogatien Vachon!! These are great... and they look like they weathered a few snowmobile trips too!! Makes me want to break out the Snowshoe Grog!! Thanks so much, Paul!! My bride is going to do some OBC style calligraphy on it, and soon we'll have all of our Chapter sign it and send it on to Rick. Dave packed the ball very carefully, wrapping it in some razor sharp '59's, a '63 Hi # of Gaylord's brother, and one of the few '60 Fleers I need (Mr. Foxx), and even some hockey stuff for this good Canajun Kid. It was a very impressive event, and was a funny feeling for this dad. We also spent some time at Hilton Head and at Savannah. It will be tough to go back to work on Our return was brightened by some great packages. Old/new guy Joe Cerullo really made my day. When I started in OBC in 1995, my goal was just to finish the 1960 set. Well, I got down to four cards (all hi # All-Stars) and stalled. One of the four was the Eddie Mathews, I've probably bid on 20 on Ebay and gotten outbid 20 times. Well, I won't have to bid on #21, cause Joe knocked it off the list. And to give the package some bulk, Joe threw in the 1961 Mathews, and two Tribesmen from the old Bowman sets. Well, Joe, its good to have you back! I met another Joe, Joe Isaac, this summer at a Tribe game. Joe said he was going to try to get me to start a 1970s set, and he made good by sending about 4 inches of cards from the 1973 set. Guess I'll have to make a new Yuk Chow kicked in two woodies and a 71 Tribesmen, all much appreciated. And last but not least, Bryan Dwyer sends my first Isaly disc, an F. Robby. Isaly's was a popular local chain in Ohio through the 60s and 70s, and I bought many a childhood ice cream cone there. To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: WMDpks@aol.com Lynn Miller sent me a great big puffy envelope with a few cards from "The Box", which is the 1500-card shoebox of cards that OBC-friendly dealer John Morrison had at the East Coast National for sale. I remember looking through them and after passing on it, I thought what a great deal the whole thing was and had to kick myself for not "pulling the trigger" on the deal but I'm really glad the cards found their way into OBC. Lynn sent a 1933 Goudey Lafayette Thompson, a 1955 Bowman Nellie Fox (a curiously difficult card to find in that set), a sharp crispy mint 1955 Red Man Tobacco of our own Original Frank Thomas (one of five cards I needed to complete the set), a 62 Post Jimmy Davenport, and 1975 Topps minis of Munson and Gibson. Thanks very much, Lynn! Other news from the weekend's Ft. I received a rather nice package today from DON METZ containing 1956 Topps cards of Cubs teammates Warren Hacker and Don Hoak. The only possible alarm was that the enveloped arrived sealed inside another plastic envelope from the Canadian postal system, with a stamp "damaged at Winnipeg..." on the original envelope. Oh yeah, that and the fact that there were TIRE TREAD marks across the entire envelope, which was ripped halfway open to partially expose the cards. Cubs pitcher Hacker arrived fairly intact. However for poor former Brooklyn Dodger Don Hoak, he was not as lucky. Yes, there is still a small remnant of the postal system's tire tread on Don's neck. Not to worry though. I hear Don was a boxer in the Navy, and he no doubt can take it quite well. Also, judging from the condition of some of the other '56s in my binder, and least Don won't feel out of place without a war story to share. An interesting experience. Now I know just a little bit more about the Canadian postal system. Thanks Don !! John C. Only other hits to these in years was mark Talbot. 9-21 John McLaughlin sends an APBA BB card and a cassette tape of teh last game playted at Memorial Stadium (1991) which also happened to be the last game Ernie Harwell did with Paul Carey, a legendary Tiger announer team. 9-27 Erik Greenwood continues his frequent visits with half a set of 1978 Burger King Yankees (combined with what I had, I now need 7), a nice 1975 Greyhound Heroes on Base Paths pamphlet. I have the 1974 & 1976 somewhere and this will complete all 3 years, even though I never have listed this as a want, Erik completes the series. Lastly, I do not know if I started another set, or have a starter set for trade. Almost assurely it is the former. Erik sends along over 1/2 the 1977 Twinkies set. I have tried to only collect the Hostess panels, but have the 1979 Hostess set as singles, an now it looks like I am collecting 1977 Twinkies. Quite the variety pack George - I thank you. I have some packages that will go out tomorrow to those who have waited so patiently and regretfully many more that need to be readied. I hope to get more out in the near future. BE REGARDS --------------------------------- MARK "Live long and prosper" - Spock * Mark S. Greg Miller hits my 66T set with 10 great ones, including 1965 strike out
leaders McDowell, Lolich, McLain, and Siebert. A great year for Tiger
pitching. Thanks, Greg. - Doug
