Brock delivers a sharp 8-cornered (if you don't get the picture you ain't trying hard enough) 52 hi of George Spencer. Other than the cosmetic surgery, this is a super looking card. But what was really strange was when I put it into the binder, the card on the page right behind it in the same slot was exactly 8-cornered as well. So they lined up perfectly when looking through them. Wonder now if they were at one time part of the same collection and mounted in the same old photograph album and "modified" to fit into the slots normally intended for pictures. Thanks mightily Brock for a super tough hit. I am but one of so many indebted deeper to you for your enormous generosity. Steve finds a really obscure vintage Hank for me, the 75 Hostess Twinkie card. I understand these are pretty hard to come by so this is truly appreciated and is definitely a most welcome addition to the collection. I send him a few UV's of Hank and he sends back tougher vintage versions. Anybody got a load of UV Hank cards they want to get rid of, just pass them this way and I'll continue to make these kinds of deals, definitely can't lose here :>) Thanks again good buddy, will keep looking for you on AOL Buddy. Richard aka "the Fugitive" makes another remarkable hit to the vintage Hank list with a nicely preserved 67 Coke Cap NL All-Stars. AKA also included another really vintage item. A 45 RPM record of Hank titled "Move Over Babe, Here Comes Henry" from 1973 recorded by Richard "Popcorn" Wylie. And there's a beautiful color photo of Hank on the jacket. Now this record doesn't look as if it's ever been played coz there's not a mark on it and the thin paper jacket shows no tattering, so this baby has been well-preserved (and will stay that way). Only one problem, where am I going to find a phonograph in this day and age to play it on ?? In fact when my 15 year-old son saw it, he kind of scratched his head and said "Dad, what's that thing used for?" Now I'm starting to feel really old :>) Richard, these are just perfect and I thank you very much. Robert Pigeon-"holes" my way a 51 Redback Andy Seminick. Great card and gets that list so much closer!! Thanks very much Robert for "winging" one across the seas. Jeff Delott brings my 66 list down one more notch with a wonderful hi Pena card. What's really special besides the significance to my list, is that this has been an "OBC Original Owner" (hey a new acronym for us OOO!) card. Jeff got this as a 7 year old in 66 and has had it since then. So I am very honored and flattered to be the recipient of a fine OBC card. Trust me, this one will never leave. Jeff, an amazing card from an amazing guy, thanks very, very much for the thoughtfulness. OBC - It Just Keeps Getting Better Every Day!! And Mark Fidrych, who really > doesn't look like he belongs in this group. Hi Chris, happy birthday. I wouldn't worry too much about turning thirty, you're just a youngster, which goes a long way in explaning the above comment about Mark Fidrych. I read that comment and thought to myself... could someone be making despairing remarks about my beloved HOMer Mark Fidrych? Should I say something? Who is this that dare besmirch the Bird? Chris Stufflestreet, born in 1972. Well, I guess that explains it. Chris, welcome to OBC. In 1976 you were four years old, that was the year that Fidrych appeared on the scene. He went 19-9 with a league leading ERA of 2.34 and won Rookie of the Year. When Fidrych pitched he filled the stadium with fans, not just Tiger Stadium but any stadium that he pitched. Fidrych had an enthusiasm and love of the game that has never been matched. Unfortunately he only had a couple of good years before he blew out his arm. He hung on for five seasons but after the arm injury it was downhill from It's too bad you missed it Chris. If you have ESPN Classic you might catch the Fidrych story sometime, I've seen it twice but never had a chance to tape I'd be more then happy to take any unwanted Fidrych cards that you may have. I just received this card, and it appears to be on thicker stock than normal and seems a bit faded. The way the card was trimmed, there is a small white border around the entire card. Looking at the SCD, it indicates that the Mantle and Maris cards were also issued as a special insert in Life (?) magazine, that it had a white border, but that there should be writing on the back. The card I have has no writing. Of course, I hope there is some simple explanation for this that some of you super sleuths can provide. I am concerned that this card may not be what it seems, and before I send any payback, want to be certain. (If a scan is the only way I can get an answer, I can try to get one next week). any help would be appreciated. tnx, gary mandell ================= Date: Sat, 7 Dec 2002 17:58:23 -0500 (EST) To: XDrJ@AOL.COM Subject: Re: [OBC-Thanks] Gus Center all aglow...Steve and Kent From: Originaleek@webtv.net With all due respect to Dr J & the Gus Triandos Research and Relocation Center, The House of Maxwell requests clarification regarding "slumming in his Tiger uniform"? These will join the Autographed 8X10 I located on eBay (cheap !!) to surprise my buddy at work...I think that Norm is going to have one of those "made my day" type experiences that us OBCers get all the time !! Joe continued that generosity with a pack for me !! High numbers from 1970, the lowest number left on my 72 set (#547...not really very low!), and another hit to my 64 quest ( more news on that to follow). Thank You Joe !!!! Brock Hattox really contributed to my MMD experience ( made my day) with a great trio...how about a 34 Canadian Goudey Paul Waner, a 64 Giant Bob Gibson, and a 64 high number Joel Horlen !! Wow, those are some great cards, Brock !! Thanks !! EEK helped with the Pepitone project as well, a cool rookie card repro withcertified autograph. Norm's gonna love this one too !! Now for 64 Topps news...I had gathered almost 200 cards for my pal Doug, from both eBay and with a lot of your help out there in OBC-land. I presentedthem to him about a week ago...a MMD experience for him !! Well, I was secretly trying to get him back into collecting...and it seems to have worked!! He's been hitting eBay gathering these 1964's himself, and will soon have some dupes to share back into OBC-land !!! The cycle continues !!! Then the inevitable happened...I liked that year's simple, elegant style, and wanted to enjoy them as much as him....and I bid on a large eBay lot formyself !!! It arrived today, and now I must change all the numbers on my current webpage wantlist...cuz I've started another set !!! I'm not sure why...but isn't it a fun guilty pleasure !! A few packages in already this week. Bob Reed sends one of the last
8 1961 Post BB I need. #105 Logan renamed kid version Bobby Knoops.
I do not know why this card has been so difficult, it is not a
shortprint as far as I know.
Bob D'Angelo checks in with more reading material. 4 hockey media
guides and a book I have to get back from my nephew as he grabbed it
as soon as I opened it, "Detroit Red Wings Greatest Moments and
Players". It looks like a great book.
Thanks Bobs.
Peter Mead checks in with 4 hockey stickers, that I have been trying
to figure ouot when they were issued and get a checklist for them. I
had 5 of these stickers already. They are a Topps issue, probably
from the 70s. Have a team logo on top and a pennant of a different
team on bottom.
Thanks Peter, now if I only knew what they were, I could really go
after them.

the work you put into this one. Delighted to see Game 7 (1960) where Maz put
the Yanks to bed with a homer in the 9th. That is the first Series I can

beaters, but they sure look in nice shape compared to some of the
others...thanks Lynn!

Can't wait to listen to some of those early ball games. I agree with someone's comment about baseball always being the perfect radio sport. I still have fond memories of listening to Ernie Harwell broadcast Tiger games in the late 60s. WJR was the only radio station I could get on my transistor radio along the shores of Lake Erie. Great stuff--thanks Dave!

Linda strikes again leaving me scrambling to find her a few cards---again. I suppose it could be much worse. She hears my cry about those blasted high numbers from the 72 set by sending off a Paul Blair. We all know Linda never stops with one card. She also knows that we are both Yankee fans--so she also slips a 58 Bob Turley AS and a 56 Andy Carey into the envelope.

My apologies--but this is pretty close to 1980. Dan Austin lowers the boom on my 81 Fleer set with one of the last two cards--leaving #87 Nettles as the final hold-out.

The Old Friar sends a surprise package with a 57 Bill Sarni (this set makes less progress than just about anything else). Bob also includes card #2 from 1956--the President card of Warren Giles.

Many thanks everyone and happy holidays,
peter mead

One thing about a Linda Fitak package - you never know exactly what you might
find. Its kind of like Christmas morning. I just made a simple "waiver wire"
request, but Linda helps out with a couple from the 58 set, 2 from the 66
Tribesmen, and a bunch of semi-unmentionables that will be great "stocking
stuffers" to go with the OBC Christmas package that I am preparing.

And, Bob Corvello hits one on the 58 list, plus a nice "Victor Leader" card"
for the 73 set. Carlton, Gaylord and Wilbur Wood - now that would make an
interesting "Big Three".....

Hello OBCmates:

What's not to love? Great friends, great stories, great get-togethers, and
just great fun. Oh yea and cards too!

Recent Thanks to the following OBCers:

Bob Reed for finding one of the last 55 Bobman I needed in Bob Hooper (who
would have thought this one would take so long to get, Thanks, BOB!!!! And
for companionship Bob sends along a very tough SP from the 1964 Giants set of
Bob Friend. So Bob Thanks for the two tough Bobs!!!! I all of a sudden have
the urge to dive in a barrel for some apples .

Mike Hair who was the first to notice my new additions to the wantlist and
hits the 61 and 62 sets with some posties. Gotta love a set which you can
actually trim the card and not feel bad about it. Thanks Mike!!!

Bob Donaldson who chips in a high # 51 Bowman. Thanks Bob!!! for another
toughie that I can cross off my dwindling 51 set.

Steve Rittenberg who is on a mission to find cards for every collector who
has a wantlist . My neighbor sends over some treats like a 55B Minoso (3
to go), 53BC Klu (32 to go), and a 53BW Ridzik (17 to go). Not every day I
can hit those three short lists. Thanks alot Steve!!!

Gotta love it!!!!
