Subject: George Owen III - Minor League Card - 1952 (Globe Printing) Ventura Hello. I received your name after having stumbled across the OCB Website and I am sincerely hoping that you can help me? I am looking for information and a baseball card for George Owen III and/orany lead on Minor League Globe Printing Cards from the 1950s. George played in the minors from 1950-1953. 1950 & 52 California State League (Ventura Braves) - I am looking for this card in this 1952 team set (Card #8) 1951 Quebec (Montreal, Canada) 1951 Appalachian League - Bluefield 1953 Gulf Coast League playing for Laredo, then Brownsville (not sure if itwas mid-season or not?) Big State League (time/year unknown) Anyway as I said, I am on the look out for this card, a team photo or news clipping from any of those teams/clubs during that time period. In the case, that you don't have any, then perhaps, you might provide a another store or perhaps another private individual, who deals directly with Vintage Minor league cards or might you post this or put it out there into the baseball universe? These names have come up during my email/phone searches, maybe you might provide contact info for these folks? Bill Weiss - (maybe) formerly at Globe Printing in the San Jose, Californiaarea? (might be in his 90s?) - got word that Mr. Weiss passed away, so I am wondering if you know who might have inherited/bought his collection? Jolene Jordan - California Collector Jason Christopherson - Eau Claire Historian Bill Bareuther - Collector? Al Moore - Maryland Collector Kraig Kahler - Illinois Collector Doug McWilliams - California Collector Chuck Lobenthal - Ohio Collector Jerry Kuntz - Collector? Alan O'Brien - Collector? The reason being, George had his 86th B-day last month and he has been a great friend of the family since 1966. I would like to provide him and his family (yes, and myself) with this gift. While many are ebay sellers trying to get me to bid on a lot, some are from folks interested in info, or offering to swap or sell a friends collection. Recently, someone e-mailed me and as it turns out they live locally. We met up at the local Redford show and they swapped me some Coke caps, including finishing my 1966 Vikings set. He has now written backand proposed a swap that should knock off a Lions set and get me a set (or2) of 1993 Slurpee cups. Then today, i got an e-mail from someone who a year or so ago, had written me about some Coke caps. I had told her she could get more by putting together some group lots and selling them on Ebay, but telling her what I would pay for them. She said the fact i told her howto get more for them, indicated my fairness and sold me what she had at myprice. She ehas now written that she has more and wants to sell them to me for the same price. As Coke caps go, I have not acquired many this year,so these blind e-mails, have worked out great for me. I know we are oftenskeptical when we get these e-mails, but they can lead to some good deals. I was to the point where I thought I'd wasted a trip - until I spied OBC-friendly dealer (and very nice guy) Mark Smith, who made the trip from northern Michigan. I hadn't seen Mark in a few months, but he immediately recognized me & pointed me to a box of 10-cent specials - in which, he told me, were some 1952 Topps. WHAT??? I set a land-speed record getting to the box. In the meantime, Mark told me the '52's in the box had been trimmed (but who in our group cares about such things? I certainly didn't.) Mark was right - I pulled out about 15 cards - almost all of which I needed. Other than being trimmed to a little smaller than a standard modern-day card size, they were in great shape. Going through the rest of the dime box,I gave in to temptation & started 2 new football sets (1975 Topps, pickingup about 100 cards) and the 1968 Topps Standup inserts (I got 7 of the 22 cards.) I also picked up handfuls of 1958, 1959, & 1960 Topps, and also my first 1961 Topps. I've even converted my '58 Topps list to a wantlist (I still need more than half, but a too-long "have" list is too hard to keep up with). Finally, I saw a small stack of about 20 1977 Pepsi (baseball) inserts, complete with tabs. I got those for less than 50 cents each from Mark. On top of the low prices, he gave me a further discount too. I love dealerslike that - friendly and willing to give big discounts to the regulars. On the way out, another vintage dealer who recognized me called me over, and I found the last 10 1974 Kellogg's I needed to kill the base set (I stillneed 2 variations for the master set). It's the first Kellogg's set I've ever So, what I thought was going turn out to be a completely wasted trip turnedinto one of the most productive shows I've been to in a long time. I have to say that sending something out as a surprise to another collector is such a great thing. It gives me such a nice feeling to know that I'm helping (even a little) with someone's set, or sending out a favorite player or team card(s). To everyone who has sent me something so far, I THANK YOU so much! I appreciate everything that has come my way. I'm still updating my online lists for crying out loud! All of my paper checklists have been updated at this point, and I'm still working on getting those online ones done. Thanks for your patience here. I'm getting a little done each night and should be all caught up soon. Since I've joined, I've added new sets to my lists, met GREAT guys, and love getting all the emails from the Thanks, Ramblings, UV and Wantlist postings. I'm checking my email all the time to see what's come through. It's so refreshing and exciting to see all the action that happens in this group. I'm looking forward to a long road ahead and meeting even more of you through trades and RAOK. I'm hoping to meet some of you in person some day at the Philly Show and maybe even a local show if there are any of you close enough to me. And, I will make the National one of these years. He would like to send them and wants my address, but I naturally have concerns about this, even though he seems to know a thing or two about cards as his main wants are 1965 Topps Ugly Stickers, pre-war type cards, and Aaro oddball. How has other OBC membersapproached this in the past and has anyone else been sent a trade request from a Jerry Hoover? I keep all my main sets, or base sets, in their own binder. The subsets or inserts I mate with similar sets. Like the 64 Giants go in the same binder as the 70 and 71 Supers. I have a separate binder that houses the 70 and 71 Scratch Offs, 62 stamps, 65 Embossed and Rub Offs, 69 Decals, basically any low quantity subset or insert. The 64 and 71 coins have their own binder, as do Post, Hostess, Kelloggs, Discs and so on. I also keep variations in their own binder so I don't have to move cards around and so the numbers to pages (a factor of 9 is in the lower right) always line up. I went straight to Danny's table. I asked to see the Blue Tints. HIsprices were astronomical on the back. I told him I only pay a fraction of that price. Hea sked me how much I pay, and he said fine. In retrospect, I think the cards were in holders that had prices for something else, andthose were not his proces for them at all. Meanwhile he was sorting through something. He mentions, I might have an interest. A few minutes later,I had agreed to purchasea complete set of 1972? PBA Bolwing Mini Lessons set. Pictures of famous bowlers from the era, giving tips on how to bowl. While not my first bowling (don't we all collect bwling cards???) it is always great to get Petraglia, Weber, Roth, etc. cards who I remmeber seeing on TV as a kid. I continue to look around and pick up a few Exhibit cards, including a 62 Stat Back Colavito, which gets me down to only needing Aparicio to complete that set. I bought a small group of 1932 Orbit Gum pins, inlcuding improving my unnumbered collection from 2 to 9, representing 15% of that set. I now have 1/3 of the numbered set. I do have a few dupes toswap. I also found the last 2 1964 Wheaties FB stamps to complete that set. So at 1 table, I got a complete set, finished a set and got another setdown to 1. I continued to walk around the show, which was absolutely dead. Many of the dealers expected a good crowd of people trying to buy gifts. It did not happen yesterday. Meanwhile, 1 dealer I rarely buy from, had a number of tables set-up. Lots of interesting items. We chatted for a bit, and he told me about his Coke cap quest to get every cap and variation for 1966 CokeFB caps. He said there are over 11,000 for 1966 alone! Fortuunately, I just want at least 1 of each, and am not really looking for all 9 or so variations of every cap. I did end up striking a deal with him to get 4 1964 Bazooka Stamps of HOFers, Drysdale, Koufax, Mathews and Williams. In addition I got a 1966 Atlanta Falcons Coke FB set. Talk about a worthwhile show. 2 complete sets purchased, 1 set finished, another set down to 1. Before the National, I compiled alsit of sets that I needed 5 or less to complete. At the time 25 of them were down to 1 and done. I have completed6 of the, but added 5 more to that list. Meaning I still have 24 sts of 1 and done, and this does not even include my Coke cap sets. I still havein the neighborhood of 44 sets that I need 2 - 5 cards on. It seems almost as many sets get added to the list as come off the list. The joy and aggravation of so many sets to collect. Hope everyone met their collecting goals this year and set more for 2013. When I complete a vintage set, I put a dot next to the set in the guide's index. Sometimes it is difficult to know when to put a dot in, such as Renata Galasso, which was issued in series over 5 years. I have thefirst few series, so should that be dotted a few times, or not dotted at all, since I have not finished 1 series??? Then there are sets I have finished, that are not in the guide, such as 1950 Indians Team issued photos. Of course, since I collect every sport, I like to count complete sets, from other than the big 4, such as the 1972 Bowling set I got yesterday. I had not not put dots in from the November Chicago show yet, so I had some catching up to do. With yesterday's Whaeaties FB stamp set being finished, it appears I have now completed the following vintage sets: 225 BB, 101 FB, 84 Hockey, 26 Basketball and 14 other sport sets. This finally puts me at 450 total complete vintage sets (Coke cap sets are NOT included in the totals), and also gets me over 100 vintage FB sets. Both milestones I never figured I would get to. While I have 68 sets on my 5 or lesslist, it is not likely I will ever complete them all. It would be reasonable to think I can add another 10 or so sets in 2013, but I will set a goalof completing 25 sets next year. While the number of sets on the lists are ever expanding, the obscurity of many, makes it unlikely they will ever get completed. While I may have more depth of sets completed, espcially inFB, Hockey and Basketball than most, there are at least 50+ BB sets that others in OBC have completed that I have not. While completing some of the Goudey and Playball sets, are possible, the T sets, etc., are likely pipe dreams. Real progress will likely come from 50's, 60's and 70's oddballs and inserts. Hi gang I've bought a couple collections of football cards recently, and I have dupes. I've been going to the OBC website Directory Page "Who CollectsWhat" tab to find the football card collectors out there. So if you are not using the "Who Collects What" feature on the website I would encourage you to update because it just makes it easier to locate the football card collectors. 1. Go to the OBC Member Director 2. Update Address or Collecting Goals 3. Update OBC Profile Info If anybody wants me to look at their football card wantlist please email me I have some 60s and quite a few 70s-81 football cards to trade. ================= Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2012 00:47:01 +0000 (UTC) To: Larry , From: Subject: Re: [OBC-Ramblings] Want to trade football cards? I love 71 Topps Football. I already am pretty close to 14 sets and I have enough to start 3-4 more, so I would like to acquire all I can get...especially big groups of them! Come one , come all! I need a few 72 FB too, and have interest in finishing a 1970 set...but those cards are in boxes buried in the closet and not too handy to pull. I don't think I ever compiled a WL. For 1970, it would be pretty extensive though. My FB list is http://familytoad.tripod.com/fbcards.html I've only worked on 58T and 66P for other years, I think I am going to stop there but ya never know! When I started my 55 Bowman set, I found that my bookshelf is full and the binder will not fit. My vintage sets are stored in binders and placed on a bookshelf. As my collection has grown, I have run out of room on my book case. I keep complete sets and partial sets in binders so in the few cases where I am working on second sets (60T & 65T), both are in binders. Before I seek out new shelf space, I am curious about how the =E2=9Cexperienced ones=E2=9D with really nice collections store their sets? I can=E2=99t imagine anyone putting them in boxes. Do you put partials and second sets in binders? Maybe I should redefine vintage sets and cut back to 1970 vs. 1979? Looking for some Rambling Feedback on how you store your prized Vintage Collection. I put my cards from my 1955 Topps and 1953 Bowman sets into top loaders and I keep those in a couple old cheese boxes that I found in some antique shop some time ago. The boxes look like they could be from around the same time these cards would have been new so they seem appropriate to me and the top loaders fit nicely inside. There is a problem though. Both boxes are just about full and I'm going to have find another box. John McLaughlin In a message dated 12/29/2012 6:53:14 P.M. Also want to say that I started a few oddball (or at least 'non-base' sets this year too - post/jello, embossed, coins, kellogs) and really had fun with that. Over the next 2 years I really want to get the topps base sets knocked down so I can have more fun with these in the future First, 2012 in review 1. Finish '73 topps - 3 to go inc. So, a few days ago, I finally was able to tear into these packs. I called over my oldest, Anton who is 5, to help me. I told him "Let's see if we get any Red Sox or White Sox cards." First pack, no Sox cards. We did get some kind of Joe DiMaggio insert, to which my son says "Oh no daddy, a Yankee." Obvious disgust coming from him. In the second pack, again we were shut out of Sox cards. In this one, We got a Freddy garcia and a ARod card. Upon seeing the third Yankee card of the day, Anton said this.."Daddy, doesn't Santa know you don't like the Yankees?" We all laughed, and I am laughing now as I type it. Just wanted to share. Goals for 2013: Meet more OBCers (if anyone is ever in SD give me a shout) Send more ROAKs Finish 1972T, 1969 T, and 1968T Get started on either 1962 or 1963T Settle on a prewar set to go after (either Diamond Stars, 1933 Goudey, or 1941 Play Ball) Ed Watts Sent from my iPhone On Dec 30, 2012, at 6:46 AM, Mac Wubben wrote: > Following up from last year... > 2012 > Get going on the type set. > Finish 65 OPC (18 to go) DONE > Finish 66 OPC (18 to go) 4 to go > Finish 67 OPC (9 to go) Done > Finish 68 OPC (34 to go) 8 to go > Finish 70 OPC (21 to go) DONE > Find 10 71 OPC high numbers Got at least double that > Get at least half of the 74 OPCs I need (50 to go) 7 to GO > Finish 76 OPC (29 to go) Done > Find 1 card from the top 6 list (W754 Southwoth) > Finish the t202's...down to one card (Got it!) > Get 6 hits to the t207 list (26 to go) (Need 20 now...bought and sold a bunch > Get 8 hits to the T3 list (28 to go) Need 13 (3 variations, 10 for base set) > Get 24 hits to the P2 list (98 to go) (57 to go...so managed about 41 hits) > Get 18 hits to the CJ list (69 to go) (37 to go...so managed 32 hits) > Find either the 38 Goudey Feller or Dimaggio that I need (almost bought a Dimaggio at the National...but didn't) > 2013 > Finish 66 OPC (4 to go) > Finish 68 OPC (8 to go) > 15 hits to 71 OPC (105 to go) > Find 1 card from top 6 list > 4 hits to the T207 list (20 to go) > 7 hits to the T3 list (13 to go) > 24 hits to the P2 list (57 to go) > 17 hits to the Cracker Jack list (37 to go) > 38G Feller or Dimaggio > Finish either the E93 or E95 set > 6 hits to the T210 list (28 to go) > Finish 70 and 71 Football sets (and add a new set) > 10 Hits to the B18 blankets (need 25) > Hit at many OBC wantlists as I can! > Mac > From: obcmac@hotmail.com > To: obc-ramblings@yahoogroups.com > Subject: 2012 COLLECTING GOALS > Date: Mon, 2 Jan 2012 14:31:05 -0500 > Well, for a few years now my activity has centered around OPC, t207's, t202's, P2's...with Cracker Jacks and T3 Turkey Reds really getting going this year. I need strict rules to stay As soon as I need less than 100 cards to complete a major set, (Topps and Bowman baseball sets), it goes in a binder. At that time, variations and subsets also go into the same binder, (at the back) Sets that need more than 100 cards to complete are kept in cardboard boxes. I have one binder that holds all early Fleer sets. I have one binder that holds all Kelloggs sets. I have one binder that holds the major SSPC set and some relevant subsets. I have two binders that hold large size cards of various sets, (Topps Giant, Super, etc.) My Topps sets in binders stop at 1979 though this is not a rule, it's just where I stopped, I have sets up to 1991 or something. I have put both the 1984 Donruss set and the 1989 Upper Deck sets in All other sets big and small, complete and not complete are in boxes, except pre-war cards which are in rigid sleeves in open top boxes. I grade all my cards and record them in a database program I made originally on a C/PM program back in the early 80's when I got my first computer. (It had a 10 MB hard drive, whooo!) I record a price relative to condition, taken from a Year 2000 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, the grade, any variations or special things about the card. Any card that I have determined to have a certain value or greater is pulled from the binder or box and put in a rigid sleeve and into a box which is kept in a safe. If it was pulled from the binder, it is replaced with an index card with the name and card number. My bookshelf is also getting full and my 54, 57 and 63 Topps sets are getting close to binder time. I do really love adding a new set to the binders. It's sort of a cool milestone. I'm definitely living vicariously and rooting for you all. I had to think about it, but here is the truth: I did not buy myself one card in 2012. All gains I made were through you guys. I believe I made progress on about 24 different sets. This year I received, among many others, a Hank Aaron, TWO Stan Musials, a Duke Snider, and just today, a 72 Roberto Clemente In Action right off of my Top 5 list! Yah! I got a whole stack of envelopes and puffies, in spite of being very limited in my ability to hit anyone back. I've said it before and I'll say it again: you guys are the BEST! Getting cards is always an encouragement and a taste of home. I was able to kill a number of OBCers sets in 2012 and hit a few top 10s orspecial requests. In the sports I play, we call this cherry picking. Mostly, I notice when someone sends out a message on the Wantlist group that they're down to one or so, and every now and then I take a shot. That's always a joy for me. My goals in 2013 are simple: I want to kill (or at least mortally wound) several more sets for my fellowOBCers this year. I want to complete my '54 Bowman set. I am within 3 cards of achieving this I think if I complete the 54s, I may set another goal for 2013. Goals are good. I hope all of you are able to achieve your goals this year, in collecting and in life. God's Blessings on all of you! I am going to be running a playoff pool for all those interested. It is an interesting format where you always have one player active in each game. The entry fee is a baseball card, preferably pre-1980, with a current condition-adjusted value of about $10. Please wait to send your card to me until I know we have enough entries to proceed. If we do, then send the card at your earliest convenience to the address below, and include a note that this is for the playoff contest. The playoff schedule is as follows: AFC Week 1: 6 Bengals at 3 Texans, 5 Colts at 4 Ravens AFC Week 2: 1 Broncos at home vs. lowest seeded Week One winner, 2 Patriots at home vs. highest seeded Week One winner AFC Week 3: Week 2 winners at home of highest remaining seed NFC Week 1: 6 Vikings at 3 Packers, 5 Seahawks at 4 Redskins NFC Week 2: 1 Falcons at home vs. lowest seeded Week One winner, 2 Forty-Niners at home vs. highest seeded Week One winner NFC Week 3: Week 2 winners at home of highest remaining seed Week 4: Super Bowl The weekend of January 5-6 marks the start of our playoff pool. Here is how it works. Teams: Select a team of 12 players from the 12 teams in the playoffs. Your team must have 1, and only 1 player from each team and you are allowed exactly 2 QB=E2=99s, 4 RB=E2=99s, 4 WR=E2=99s, 1 TE, and 1 K (there are no defenses or special teams in the pool). In each game, every participant will have one player going from each team. Rank your players 1 through 12, with 1 being the player you think will score the most points overall throughout the playoffs, and 12 being the player you think will score the least points. Missed (incl. bad snap) or Blocked FG 1-39 yards -2 points, 40-49 yards -1 point. PATs 1 point, missed PAT (for any reason unless a pass or run results in a conversion) -2 points There are NO points awarded for 2 point conversions or kick returns for Remember, four NFL teams will have 1st round byes, and could potentially play one less game than the other eight. The winner is determined by total points scored by their roster over the entire playoff season (four games). Tie Breaker: Since there is a possibility that more than one team can have the exact same players and/or total score, ties will be broken by the total points of the player with the #1 ranking. If still tied, than #2 will be used and so on until the tie is broken. Prizes (subject to change based on number of entries): Overall winner will get 75% of the cards, 2nd place gets 25%. I hope to have rosters/rankings out before kickoff of the first game on Saturday, especially if I get your rosters early. Weekly results will be sent out as an Excel spreadsheet attachment in an email, usually on Monday before noon. Please let me know if you have any questions BEFORE the roster deadline. Submit your roster to me like this: QB Dawson KC (4), QB Staubach DAL (2), RB Davis DEN (1), RB Warner SEA (12), etc., with the number in parenthesis being your personal ranking of the player. Deadline: Picks must be submitted to me via email (_smartalecx@aol.com_ (mailto:smartalecx@aol.com) ) no later than Saturday, January 5 at Noon Central Time. Once your team is submitted, it cannot be changed. Passing: Touchdown 4 points, Yardage 1 point for every 25 passing yards, -2 points for an interception, - 2 points for a fumble Receiving: Touchdown 6 points, Yardage 1 point for every 10 yards, 1 point for every catch, -2 points for a fumble Rushing: Touchdown 6 points, Yardage 1 point for every 10 yards, -2 points for a fumble Kicking: Field Goals: 1-39 yards 3 points, 40-49 yards 4 points, 50-59 yards 5 points, 60+ yards 7 points. Remember, picks must be submitted to me via email (_smartalecx@aol.com_ (mailto:smartalecx@aol.com) ) no later than Saturday, January 8 at 8 AM. So much so that I saved a document on my hard drive withmy 2012 goals so I wouldn't have to look them up on the server. Unfortunately I didn't do as well as I'd hoped. Maybe I was over-reaching, but I flopped on more than a few, and had only partial success on many others. So, for those interested, what follows is a review of my 2012 goals, how I did on those, and finally my 2013 goals: REVIEWING MY 2012 COLLECTING GOALS: 1) Send out more RAOK to all of my OBC friends. HOW I DID: FAIL. I didn't send out nearly enough. 2) Make it Baltimore for the National, where I can hang with OBC friends new & old. HOW I DID: FAIL =96 only b/c my employer took my job away from me as of the week of the National & I thought it prudent to try & save some money. 3) Complete at least 2 of the following sets: 1954 Bowman (need 4, plus 5 variations but I'll settle for the 4 for the base set for now); 1958 Topps (need 14); 1959 Topps (need 14); 1964 Topps (need 20); 1965 Topps (need 10);1971/72 Topps Hockey (need 7) HOW I DID: Halfway succeeded (or halfway failed, depending on whether you're a glass half-full or glass half-empty kind of person); I did finish the '58 Topps set =96 thanks to a very generous Stan Hack Attack after the National. I got the '54 Bowman & `71/'72 Topps hockey sets down to 2 each, the '59 Topps set down to 3, & the '64 & '65 baseball sets down to 7 & 8, respectively. 4) Complete the 1959 Topps gray back variations I need (need 10) and the 1960 Topps gray back variations (need 1) HOW I DID: Halfway succeeded. The '59 back variations are finished, but I never pursued the last '60 gray back I needed. 5) Between the '67, '66, & '63 Topps sets, pick up at least 10 from each set (currently need 42, 54, & 75, respectively.) This is going to be a tough one. Those high numbers are a pain. HOW I DID: FAIL. I only succeeded in one of those: I knocked off 18 from the '63 set but only 1 from '67 and 4 from '66. I hate those high numbers. 6) Pick up at least 2 more of the very tough remaining cards I need for the'57 Topps set; I need 6 players, 2 checklists, & 3 variations. This is going to be another really hard one to accomplish. HOW I DID: SUCCESS =96 thanks to Wes Shepard, who sent me the Mantle. I picked up a checklist in the summer too, so I got exactly what my goal was. 7) Get my '60 Fleer set (11 left), my '63 Fleer set (16 left) & my 72/73 Topps hockey set (14 left) to under 10 to go each. HOW I DID: 67% SUCCESS. Not only did I get the '60 Fleer baseball & 72/73 hockey sets to under 10 =96 I killed those babies. '63 Fleer now sits at 13 to 8) Try to get the '54 & '55 Topps sets down to a maximum of 20 needed for each set. Right now I'm at 30 (for the `54 set) and 26 (for the `55's). HOW I DID: Halfway succeeded; oh-so-close. '54 Topps is at 19 to go, and thanks to OBC Santa Ray Luurs, '55 is at 21 to go. I did manage to sneak in a couple of completed sets in 2012, in addition tothe '60 Fleer: the '77 cloth set (well, the base set, thanks to Anthony Arbeeny bursting my satisfaction bubble by telling me each card has 2 variations) & the '74 Kellogg's set And now....on to..... TOM HOUSLEY'S 2013 COLLECTING GOALS: 1) Send out more RAOK to all of my OBC friends. Degree of difficulty: 0. I just need to get off my lazy butt & do it more often 2) Make it Chicago for the National, where I can hang with OBC friends new& old. Degree of difficulty: 9, simply b/c I have a new job & technically don't have any vacation time until October. 3) Complete at least 2 of the following sets: 1954 Bowman (need 2); 1959 Topps (need 3); 1964 Topps (need 7); 1965 Topps (need 8); 1971/72 Topps Hockey (need 2) . Degree of difficulty: 9. The '54 Bowman Mantle, '59 Gibson & the Ken Dryden rookie are the biggest roadblocks. 4) Complete the 1960 Topps gray back variations (need 1). Degree of difficulty: 3. I just have to find it (Maris) in my price range. 5) Between the '67, '66, & '63 Topps sets, pick up at least 10 from each set (currently need 41, 50, & 57, respectively.) This is going to be a tough one. Those high numbers are a pain. Degree of difficulty: 10. Thank you, 1967 & 1966 high numbers. 6) Pick up at least 1 more of the very tough remaining cards I need for the'57 Topps set; I need 5 players, 1 checklist, & 3 variations. This is going to be another really hard one to accomplish. . Degree of difficulty: 7 7) Get my '63 Fleer set (13 left) & my '61 Fleer set (18 left) under 10 to go each. Degree of difficulty: 5. This one shouldn't be too hard to accomplish 8) Try to get the '54 & "55 Topps sets down to a maximum of 15 needed for each set. Right now I'm at 18 (for the `54 set) and 21 (for the `55's). Degree of difficulty: 5. Even though most of the cards I need are stars, I do need some commons from each set, even if they are high numbers. 9) Complete the '67 Topps posters set. I need Mantle, Mays, Clemente & Powell. . Degree of difficulty: 2. Just gotta find them, either at shows or evilBay. Or hope for a big RAOK 10) Kill either the 1967 Topps Football standup insert set, or the 1970 Topps Football Super Glossy insert set. Degree of difficulty: 5. They aren't easy to find. That's it. Can I do it? Tune in one year from tonight to find out! LOL It couldn't have been too bad of a year considering I was able to make it to the Baltimore National where I picked up some good cards at good prices. I was also able to add some major hits such as an Aaron RC, a Clemente RC, and a few other decent "sized" hits. Also seemed to add more sets than complete, which keeps the juices flowing. Best of all, was able to meet a bunchof great traders at the National. :) The following are my collecting goals, in no particular order. A ) Reduce my card dupes by 50%. B ) Reduce my comic collection by 50%. C ) Increase my trade and RAOK output. D ) Attend the Chicago National and meet up with more OBCers. E ) Have more due diligence for picking up pre-war cards and 1928 ice creamcards. F ) Make a decision on my Bowmans. Should they stay in my collection or should they go? G ) Cut the following want lists in half: - H891 (Tobin Lithographs) - 1952-1955 Red Man - N2 (American Indian Chiefs) - G-Men and Heroes of the Law H ) Complete the following sets: - That pesky 1995 Conlon set. Need only 2 more (#1369 and #1394). Any help? - 1960 and 1961 Fleer - 1970, 1974, and 1975 Kelloggs - 1955 and 1957 Topps - 1970s Topps Variations - 1974-1976 Topps Football - 20 of my current non-sports sets.
