I had 2 cards for ed a 1955 and 56 oriole card, but i think i left them home I felt like an ass. After we met Ed took me and treated me to an AWESOME bar where we threw down a few Cold Beers, and I had the BEST shrimp i have ever had in my life....We met up with a few of Eds friends, he introduced me to a 30 year Captain with the Baltimore Fire department....again great time. We made our way to the stadium, and stopped outside a bar called Pickles and WOW was this strip outside the stadium MOBBED...they dont have this stuff in NY we had a blast...got some Orioles beeds from a few women who worked at a very nice Club..wink wink.... saw a bunch of people and didn't know them, but b.sd with them it was a great party/time....Baltimore is a fantastic town b-4 a game. Now we head into the game to watch the Rays take on the Orioles fun game the 3 of us got to sit together and we had a blast...I got to also add Camden yards is the Nicest Stadium i have been to and they have the BEST HOT DOGS...Hey mike rich...the dogs here didn't kill my stomach...LOL I am sure there is a lot of stuff i am leaving out, but I sincerely wanted to THANK ED SCHOTT for the cards and such a GREAT time Thank you ED Rob "The FIREMAN" **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. We've continued to have steady growth and activity with the OBC Year Project server. Here is the monthly summary to give everyone an idea of what's up. We now have 46 members, still growing slow and steady. Membership is still open for anyone else to join if they wish. You can come and post wantlists, list your availables, or just check it out and see what you think. To join, send an email to: Bob Reed and I worked out a better database wantlist format that should hold up for the long run, even when we get back to the Post and Bowman years. Bob has been doing all the hard work, so thanks to him for that. This new format makes it even easier to look at several people's lists for a particular year or set at the same time. Now, members of the group can add their wantlists for ANY sets (including oddball) from a specific year, and edit others' lists when they pull cards for them, in order to minimize sending and receiving dupes. We will be starting the years 1976 and 1985 today, and the previous month's sets (1977 and 1984) will still have a database too. 1978 through 1983 will be in the "Archive" database. There are also three databases for other sports: 1976, 1985, and archive. Again, we'd love for anyone else to join if you'd like to check it out. Just send an email to: Thanks for reading again. By the way, happy April fools day. This post is certified free of all "April-foolery" you may be expecting from me. Hope everyone was able to have a little chuckle from my earlier post. This is pretty big for me as I have been searching for this card for 15 years. This not only completes my favorite set ever but also my birth-year set. It is also the set that got me back into collecting about 20 years ago. My Mom had not thrown out my cards and she handed me a 57 Aarron and said, "you know I still have these cards for you". I was incredulous. "You still have my cards?" I was back in the hobby and off to try and complete that 57 set. Well today I did it. Thanks to all that helped along the way. The label says it will lift adhesives, tape, stickers, gum, labels, grease & tar, etc. You squirt a few drops on the stuff you want off, let it soak a bit, and peel the paper or whatever off. When the liquid evaporates it doesn't leave any stain or residue. My experience has been that it works on some, but not all, kinds of stickers, glue or tape. For what it's worth, Need cash? I've just received this book - Smithsonian Baseball - which I managed to pick up for a ridiculous price. I first saw the book while visiting the States last year. It was a bit pricy (rrp $30), so I thought I'd get home, stick it in my Amazon wish list, and wait to see what might happen. Late last week, a copy came up for about $2. The description stated that there was some slight damage to the dust cover, but at that price, I could live with that. When the book arrived today, the "damage" proved to be a VERY slight crease and tiny quarter inch tear, both right at the front base of the cover. In other words, I've paid full price in bookstores for books with MORE damage than this!! The book itself is terrific. A full color, 286 page "coffee table"-type book featuring the private collections of many notable baseball memorabilia collectors. Cards, uniforms, tickets, bats, balls, programs, pinbacks, pennants, games, advertising....almost every kind of collectable is featured here. Apologies for the multiple posts. First off, I wanted to say thank you to an OBCer. At least, I think it was an OBCer. A couple months back, someone recommended a book called "Crazy '08", the story of the 1908 pennant race. Well, I managed to find a copy on Amazon (yet another bargain!), and just finished it this past weekend. An excellent read!! I just wish I could remember who made the recommendation in the first place (it wasn't Linda Fitak, was it?). On the National front, it seems that any lingering hopes that I may have had of making it to Chicago have now faded completely. On Sunday, we discovered that our wooden framed garage (a structure which is thankfully quite separate from our house) was very badly infested by wood-eating bugs. Its so bad that we are going to have to demolish and rebuild before next winter. We knew the garage wasn't in great shape, but we thought we might still get a year or two out of it. Unfortunately, that wasn't to be the case. Any money which might have gone towards a visit to Chicago is now going to have to be diverted to the garage fund. So, I guess all I can do is start putting my pennies aside and look forward to next year! Glasgow, Scotland Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. An excerpt is below: George Vrechek Topps must have been displeased with the coloring of cards in the first run using black ink on the backs. The black backs might also be called the guys with the gray faces on the front. The fronts of red back cards are much clearer with better color than the black backs. In fact it looks like when Topps noticed the Sain-Page goofs they must have also said to themselves: what can we do to improve the color on some of these cards? Ray Boone (#55) looked like death warmed over on a dark orange background. Kretlow (#42) wasn't much better. I think that when the Page and Sain cards got fixed, that Topps also improved #s 42 and 55. Both cards can be found in red and black backs, but the black backs have two different looks on the front. I would submit that the crummier looking versions are as scarce as the incorrect Sain and Page cards. Finally Topps fixed the problem by going with red ink on the back and clearing up the fronts of all cards. ================= To: OBC-Ramblings@yahoogroups.com Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2008 11:57:26 -0400 From: dsh46@aol.com Subject: Re: What should I offer for this T206 card? I don't think carburation is the problem & I'm sure an OBD test would support that. The machine seems to start OK, it just doesn't syncromesh properly. I think it is more likely a transmission problem. I assume it's a newer model and would be an automatic with a trans-axle. If so it could be just a matter of adjusting the bands. Now Tom, if you want to fix it up just long enough to sell it there's an old trick of putting sawdust and a banana peel in the housing, It will run great long enough for a test drive. On the off hand that we are dealing with a standard transmission, I would adjust the clutch and check both the linkage and U joint for slippage. BTW Tom, a couple of good news items. First there is no charge for my diagnostic expertise. Secondly, I am pleased to announce that your application was reviewed and unanimously approved. You are now officially a T.O.E. For those that are new or have forgotten, what this means is you need to send me your wantlists, with condition requirements (if any) and price you are willing to pay up to and I will see if I can find it for you. This works great for individual OPC cards or starter lots of OPC. Please send lists by Sunday, April 27 at 12:00 est, so I may print them out. Late submissions will probably not be printed out until I am in Toronto, so may get less attention. For bigger ticket items, it is suggested to include a cell number for me to call you. Right now the US and Canadian dollars are quite close, whcih means that I do not expect a blockbuster show, since I shop for bargains. Some guys don't think the '74 set is done until you have the "Wash Natl Lea" variations in hand. OK, after I reluctantly swallowed that concept, I put the Washington variations on my list. Small problem - kids, before you put the Washington variations on the list, you might want to make sure you have the San Diego cards in the first place, because in one case I didn't. My oversight actually had some benefit, though. So I'm adding my voice to the other members who report astounding generosity from Lynn. Lynn's packages to me held: 510 1974 Topps, taking my wantlist from needing 580 to needing 70!!! 264 1973 Topps and 110 1972 Topps, changing both of those from "have" lists to Wantlists for me! My favorite cards from the gift of nearly A THOUSAND, each of which I joyfully handled and read and sorted and looked up and recorded, included a 1972 Clemente (#226), which yes, I think is my first Clemente card, and he's one of my heroes; 1972 Frank Robinson (#228) and Yaz In Action; 1973 Carew, Bench, and Ca rlton League Leaders, a beautiful Bob Gibson card, and a Bench World Series card; 1974 Bench, Carew and Morgan, Reggie, Campy & Speier, and Catfish All-Star cards...and Sparky Lyle--pre-mustache! Whoa! Two comments: 1)As the Fireman suggested, how can you call something a "starter set" when it has 90% of the cards, or, with the 74 Tradeds, from having two to needing two? 2)Lynn was sincerely grateful for the one card I sent him! Man! Lynn, in my circles there is a word for receiving much more or other than what one deserves: Grace. Thank you for this gracious gift! This group amazes me.
