We're down to one card show a year now and I almost missed it! With the demise of the Tacoma Dome Show, the only card show left is the annual Washington State Sports Collectors show. The great thing about this showis that many of the tables are collectors who only do this one show. Great guys to chat with and you see some neat stuff. This show was a little earlier this year, and I had spaced on it until I was cleaning up my Outlook inbox Friday. It was then I re-found a mail message from Mark MacRae about the show being this weekend. So I didn't have a chance to check with other Pac NW OBC members and I don't know if any of them made the show. I heard that Big Al was sitting in his car out in the parking lot but when I when out and looked around I didn't spot him. Anyway it was worth the trip to Seattle. I picked up 3 Seattle Popcorn cards, a 1952 Mother's cookies, and 2 B18 blankets. It was great to see Mark again but he had a lot of people to talk to so we didn't get to visit much. While there I discovered a card shop that some in teh group may find interesting that is located in Upland (about 20 minutes from Erik Greenwood?) called Action Sports Cards. Owner is Aldo and he is willing to do mail order at actionsportscardsupl@yahoo.com or (909) 946-8881. Normally I do not shill for card shops, but he has some interesting 1964-7 Topps BB. He has a bunch of 1965-7 that are in nice shape, except someone very neatly penned in the year of issue on the cards. 1966 in the diaganol strip on front, 1967s by the totals line of the stats on back. Most of the asking prices are around 35% of high book, although he gave me a discount on the stack I took of really trashed vintage. There were a number of the 1966 & 1967 high number shortprints. In addition to the high numbers he had some stars, such as 67 Brooks $100, Wills $30 Carew $100 Seaver $190 Cash $15 Stanley $15; 66 G. Perry $50 Mantle $140; 1965 Clemente $20 Koufax (this one is beat up) $10. The only other interesting card was a 53 Bowman Color Musial asking $250, but already told me he would come down closer to $150. He indicated they were just starting to stock vintage cards, so I expect they will get more in. If you contact him, let him know you are in OBC with me. I picked up 67 variation cards Pretty & McCormick, with the year penned on them plus some beat up 64 Mays 65 Koufax & Killebrew, plus a few hundred really trashed 1964-1972 Topps BB all for $40. There were some stars and 64 & 65 high numbers in the in the trash stack. I do not travel much, but it seems like I can usually find a card shop to find something wherever I go. I came over with my son Scott, who is a newlywed and will be living with his brothers in Norfolk VA to start his new life as well in order to support his new family back home. They have a child on the way. My family is still back in the Philippines at the request of the U.S. Immigration. I was told it was necessary for me to come first and establish a legitimate "domicile" and prove support before they would approve the petition for a visa for my wife an my two step-children. Seems I've been away from the U.S. for too long that I might be some kind of risk. So I'm living in a small, efficiency studio apartment right outside the gate of Nellis AFB. I have been accepted to work for a security agency as a shift guard in the most prestigious gated community in Las Vegas. However, the word prestigious does not equate to salary ;>) But it's a job for now and will satisfy Immigration's requirement and I've started the ball rolling on that stuff.
