It is certainly not meant to be. As most of you know, I am involved in a campaign for the 11th District seat in the Illinois House of Representatives. Most of you may not know that our state has been without a budget for almost two years, and it is unlikely that one will get passed prior to the election in early November. Since most OBC=E2=99ers don=E2=99t live in Illinois, you may ask, what does this have to do with us? The underfunded pension liability issue has become so big in so many states, that the Federal government is considering passing a bill to provide relief. Illinois, unfortunately, has the lowest funding percentage of all fifty states. With cut backs in Federal support for states, property tax increases have become the norm in most major cities. Illinois just passed New Jersey as having the highest property tax rates in the country. In addition, we have the highest personal and corporate income tax rates in the region, and in the top 20% in the country. Finally, no one can boast a 10.25% sales tax rate like we can in Chicago! I have spent 35 years working with clients on how to establish and maintain a budget, how to carefully use debt, including credit cards, and how save for major purchases instead of needing instant gratification. It is this experience and expertise that I am trying to bring to Springfield. Another fact of life is that campaigns cost money. We are running a fairly bare bones campaign, yet we expect that it will cost about $150,000 to even be competitive. We are generating very positive buzz about our campaign now, but money talks. While we have already raised over $41,000, we are far from our goal. My opponent, who has run unopposed since 2010, has been padding her war chest since that time. As of March 31, she had about $90,000 in the bank. When I send out cards to OBCers, such as the 200 hits to 1970 lists I sent out last month for example, most folks can not hit me back. Admittedly, I have a very tough list, with the 1919 Zeenut set the easiest of all of them to hit these days. While I enjoy sending out cards, I can count on both hands the number of needed hits I have received since the 2014 National. So today, I am asking those of you who could not hit my lists, or those of you who's charitable ventures I have supported in the past, of those of you who are just plain interested, to support my campaign with a monetary donation of any size. In exchange for your contribution, if you ask me to,I will try my hardest to send hits to your want list equal to the value of your contribution. Please check out my website at www.MandellForStateRep.com. You can find out all about the important issues I am running on, and if you choose to, you can donate online via an encrypted site using your credit card. It gets passed through the PayPal system (although no PayPal account is required, and I do not see your credit card information) and ends up in our campaign funds. If you want to pay be check, you can do so as well, although I will need to email you a form. Just let me know. For those of you who have gotten this far, I appreciate your time, and I hope that you will support our campaign to save our dying state. Gary Mandell P.O.
