The annual Advisory Committee election was held in February. Nominations were accepted February 1-14 and votes were accepted February 15-28. The current AC voted 7-0 to ask Mark Holland to be the election commissioner. He agreed and proceeded, but resigned from OBC during the election process and asked Joe Isaac to finish the election. Mark forwarded to Joe all the ballot data he had received up to that point. The ballots will be tabulated and the results posted by Joe soon. CHANGE TO THE RULES OF CONDUCT. A vote was finalized February 16th to add the following to the Rules of Conduct: VOTING: Only OBC members who are active at time of the nomination and election periods are eligible to nominate or vote for Advisory Committee and Facilitator candidates. Members who are Inactive, Retired, and otherwise not active during the nomination and election periods are not eligible to vote. ELIGIBILITY: The Election Commissioner is not eligible for any elected rolethey oversee, including Advisory Committee and Facilitator. ENACTED: These changes are to take effect following the 2018 election. APPROVED by 7-0 vote. GROUP EMAIL SERVERS UPDATE. There was continued discussion about leaving Yahoo Groups, with the difficulties the service has presented of late. Starting March 1-2, The 2018-19 Advisory Committee and facilitator are testing Google Groups for 2-3 weeks. Webmasters Wayne Delia and Joe Isaac evaluated different forum-based serversand Google Groups is the best option. Joe Isaac is the 2018-19 Facilitatorand from that chair he will be able to provide an update with the next step. As stated last month, if outages occur again before a permanent solution has been reached, here are three workarounds for contacting others: 1. Go to oldbaseball.com and use the email addresses on the directory page to contact members directly. 2. Go to net54baseball.com and check to see if there is vital info for OBC.Many of our members are regulars on the Net54 forum too. 3. Join our Facebook page by going to facebook.com/groups/oldbaseballcards/ ROSTER CHANGES. 1. Patrick Prickett (per membership poll non-response) and Chris Tripler (by request) were moved to the inactive list. 2. The Retired category was officially begun and added to the directory page. Al Cummings and John Harrell were added. 3. As was mentioned in the election item above, Mark Holland expressed his desire to leave OBC on February 21st. 4. Per his own request and after a decision of the Advisory Committee, Ray Luurs=92 membership in OBC and posting privileges to the various Yahoo groups were suspended on February 22nd. '1975 PROJECT' FUNDS UPDATE. As many already know, Kent Goto started a nine-set collection of 1975 Toppslast year. Folks in OBC sent him plenty; he purchased several stars as well. Those cards were then sold off, primarily BACK to members of OBC. There were nine complete sets, three partial sets, even some binders and sheets which were sold. The sales from this project netted proceeds of $1,250 whichhave been forwarded to the OBC treasury! All proceeds from this project will be used to provide "scholarships" to the annual National Sports Collectors Convention, or for other such benevolent endeavors as the AC deems worthy. Thanks to all who participated! HOW TO CONTACT THE AC. As always, the Advisory Committee welcomes your suggestions on items to discuss. The 2018-19 AC will be announced shortly. You can always contact them, or any OBC member, by going to http://oldbaseball.com/ then clicking DIRECTORY and using the handy email address links there. This report concludes my duties as Facilitator for the 2017-18 Advisory Committee, but I will continue striving to make the best group better. I challenge you all to do the same. The voting was so close there was a tie forthe alternate member between Mike Rich and Tom Housley. I spoke to Mike and Tom individually today and asked them to discuss between themselves who would be the alternate; Mike decided to defer since he served on the last AC in order for Tom to take the alternate position. I want to publicly thank Mike and Tom for the way they handled this unique situation. The AC will test out the Google Groups forum and I will inform the membership on the next step. In the meantime, continue to use Yahoo Groups. Respectfully submitted, Joe Isaac ================= To: OBC Annoucements Date: Thu, 8 Mar 2018 16:27:48 +0000 Subject: Mark Holland From: Joe Isaac Hello OBCer's, Mark Holland wants to return to the group. Per the ROC, any former member, who was in good standing at the time of hisresignation, may reapply for membership by simply emailing to the advisorycommittee his desire to be returned to active membership. The request willthen be announced to the general membership and considered at the next meeting of the committee. If you have any comments that you want the AC to consider, please send a note to the Ramblings server, the OBCAC or me no later than 3/20/2018. Over the next week, I will be adding the entire membership - active, inactive and retired - to the OBC Announcement server on Google Groups. Everyonewill have read-only privileges and can access the group very easily. In the meantime, I will ask each one of you to get setup with a google account. For those who have a gmail account, go to https://groups.google.com/ on your laptop/desktop or iphone. For those who do not have a gmail account, please sign up with Google using the following URL: https://accounts.google.com/signupwithoutgmail After you do this, go to https://groups.google.com/ and sign in. At the home page, click on My Groups and OBC Announcements will display. If you do not see the OBC Announcement, that means I did not add your name yet (please be patient as I intend to complete this by 3/23/2018). There is a lot offunctionality that you can configure to your desire - add a photo, change settings, email delivery preferences, etc. Feel free to browse around and ask any questions to Wayne and myself that you may have. Yahoo Groups will be phased out over the next few months and transitioned to Google Groups. There will still be read-only access to Yahoo Groups after the transition until we can figure out how to export the messages from Yahoo Groups and make them available on the website (a work in progress). Google groups is mobile-friendly and very well organized.
