Aaron Shirley OBC-AC facilitator ================= Date: 07 Jun 2017 19:50:09 +0000 To: Subject: New OBC applicant - Cade Doolittle From: directorth@aol.com ================= To: "obc-announcements@yahoogroups.com" Date: Sat, 10 Jun 2017 02:35:28 +0000 Subject: SPECIAL OBC REPORT From: Aaron Shirley The Advisory Committee would like to present to you, the membership at large, the primary work of the last several weeks. Below you will find a letterfrom Doug Smith, a letter from the AC, and the results of the vote on Doug's reactivation. Each of those three pieces represents a vote. Those votes will be mentioned again in the June report. Thank you Aaron Shirley, facilitator LETTER FROM DOUG SMITH To the OBC Membership: My name is Doug Smith. For the past twelve years I have been on the OBC inactive list, and I am seeking reinstatement to active involvement. Because Ileft OBC suddenly and under difficult circumstances, I want to share with you my past and present status. I have long been an active collector of old baseball cards, and joined OBC in about 1994. I became an active member, actively sending and receiving cards and meeting up with the over 60 other members as I traveled. I was elected OBC=92s first treasurer, and served in that position for about seven years. Here=92s the bad news: I was traveling a lot for my job, and spent a lot ofdown time in hotel rooms. I discovered pornography and began trading it byemail with others who were interested. It became an addiction. I looked atpictures that were more and more deviant, including pictures of children. I knew what I was doing was wrong and tried to stop, but I could not. On February 22, 2005, I was arrested for possessing and exchanging child pornography. My involvement with OBC ended at that moment. I knew I needed to change my life, and spent 4 =BD months at a private residential addiction treatment center for sex addiction, where I became activein twelve step programs. I spent 7 years in federal prison, where I helpedorganize recovery programs for those convicted of internet sex crimes. I was released from prison on December 27, 2012, and continue on probation.I have become very active, locally and nationally, in twelve step programsfor recovery from sex addiction. My life is very different than it was before. My wife Judy and I have been married for almost 50 years. I am actively involved in the lives of my three children and seven grandchildren. Aftertwelve years, I recently received permission to use the internet again. Mycomputer is monitored, and I am not allowed unsupervised contact with children including internet contact. I also continue to collect old baseball cards. I loved my involvement with OBC, and hope you will welcome me back. Doug Smith THIS LETTER WAS APPROVED BY A 6-0 VOTE WITH ONE ABSTENTION. LETTER FROM THE AC The Advisory Committee had Doug Smith's request for re-activation brought before us back on April 19th. The AC agreed that this is a unique case, and needed to be handled as such. So over the course of the last six-plus weeks, the AC has considered, discussed and debated the parameters which would need to be set in place in order to handle this fairly and wisely. In keeping with the unique nature of this issue, the AC came up with a new category: Member Emeritus in perpetuum. The AC agreed to the following restrictions: Doug may not serve in the following positions: Advisory Committeemember, facilitator, treasurer, mentor or sponsor. These are permanent restrictions placed solely on Doug, not on the category of Member Emeritus. The category also mentions "in perpetuum" which simply and only means they are permanent restrictions placed on him, and cannot be removed while he remains a member. As for allowances, it was also discussed for some time whether any Yahoo group servers should be restricted, and the majority agreed Doug could subscribe to any he desires. Any questions or concerns you have can be directed to Aaron Shirley, the AC's facilitator. You may also choose to email any individual on the AC - SalDomino, Joel Freedman, Spike Glidden, Ken Morganti, Nick Pelletier, Mike Rich and Wes Shepard. To be fair and transparent, you should know the AC hadconsiderable debate over these issues, which is why it has taken over six weeks. The AC took the time to do this in a way we feel is right, not just expedient. There are other issues which have been on hold. We look forward to tackling them in order to continue improving and refining to make this the best group it can be! THIS LETTER WAS APPROVED BY A 6-0 VOTE WITH ONE ABSTENTION. VOTE (PASSED, 6-1) to establish Doug Smith as Member Emeritus in Perpetuum with the following restrictions/stipulations: A) Doug Smith is ineligible to serve as OBC treasurer, OBCAC member or facilitator, mentor, sponsor or any other (present or future) position a regular OBC member is eligible to hold. B) Doug Smith is to be subscribed to the Announcements server - plus any other OBC servers of his choosing. C) "REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER" will accompany Doug Smith's entry in the password protected portion of the directory (address list). The above are permanent and binding for Doug Smith and can not be appealed, edited or adjusted once they have been established (in perpetuum). ================= To: OBC Annoucements Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2017 02:20:14 +0000 Subject: OBCAC update From: Joe Isaac Hello OBCer's, Due to a recent change at his church that forced a heavier load on him, Aaron Shirley decided to step down from Facilitator for a short period of time.
