As a returning member, Joel doesn't need sponsors or mentor, just your input/opinions/comments. You can help with that process: 1. go to http://www.oldbaseball.com/ 2. Click DIRECTORY, then click VIEW NEW APPLICATIONS. 3. Sign in, then click on JOEL GYSELINCK (there are two applications with his name; use the first) 4. Add your input there. Thank you. After a week has passed, the AC will vote on his readmission. 1. The AC + the IT team are aware of the new weirdness today with Yahoo Groups - at this time you should still be able to initiate emails using anyof the servers, simply by starting directly from your email account. 2. Monthly report coming tonight. Aaron Shirley OBC Facilitator ================= To: "obc-announcements@yahoogroups.com" Date: Sat, 2 Dec 2017 06:28:36 +0000 Subject: OBC November 2017 report From: Aaron Shirley Hello again. Monthly report time. THE SHORT VERSION: - New member CARL WOODROME! - Inactive member NICK PELLETIER returned to active. - Former member JOEL GYSELINCK wishes to return (please add your input on the - Member RICHARD NIESSEN passed away. - Created the RETIRED category. - The IT TEAM continues to work on website improvements. - Meanwhile, YAHOO GROUPS had two exciting glitches. DETAILS OF THE VOTES: 1. Create the RETIRED category. PASSED, 7-0. Here is the full text of the motion: "A RETIRED member of OBC is someone who has stopped collecting OBC style cards (vintage, off-grade). They either no longer collect cards, have sold their collections or passed it along to a relative. This includes those who are now dealers, only do UV or only graded material, and are no longer swapping within OBC. They have retired from OBC active status. They have developed friendships and/or enjoy reading the Ramblings server, and want to stay in touch with those friends and other sports fanatics. Those electing this category would be exempt from the membership polls and dues. They would be ineligible for any OBC role, including Advisory Committee, Treasurer, Mentor or Sponsor. They would be allowed to subscribe to the Ramblings, UV and National servers, but not the Wantlist, Dealer Scum, VCS or Thanks server. Should a 'Retired' member choose to return to active status, they would need to go through the 'Former Member' process." 2. New member CARL WOODROME. PASSED, 7-0. Carl is a friend of mine, and I am his OBC mentor. I will say much the same as New Member Guy Tom says: greet him in the typical way. His budding wantlist is at http://www.oldbaseball.com/wantlists/woodrome.htm YAHOO GROUPS DOWN The YAHOO GROUPS servers were down from November 19-23, then our groups simply vanished from the groups.yahoo.com page for a while today. Both issues seem resolved, and both were YAHOO issues, not OBC issues. Conversation happening now about contingency plans. In the meantime, since many of you are on Facebook or Net54baseball.com, try checking there to see what's up. Justlike knowing where the flashlights are for when the power goes out. SITE MIGRATED WAYNE DELIA and JOE ISAAC migrated oldbaseball.com to Hostgator a few weeksback. They have continued to make improvements under the hood, and those who have been paying any attention at all should know they are a couple of very valuable assets to have in our group. MORE THAN CARDBOARD ALSO... as mentioned above, OBC member RICH NIESSEN passed away on October 20th. LARRY TIPTON's sister Pamm Ault passed away November 7th. MIKE RICH'smother Harriet passed away November 8th. Richard Labs' sister passed away November 28th. Sorry if I missed anyone - SEVERAL of our loved ones have been lost recently. As has been stated many MANY times, this group is about more than just cardboard. I'm quite proud to say I'm a member when I see thestuff we do for each other in our times of need and times of loss. Bless you! THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE As always, the Advisory Committee welcomes your suggestions on items to discuss. They are Sal Domino, Joel Freedman, Spike Glidden, Ken Morganti, Grant Rainsley, Mike Rich, Wes Shepard. You can always contact them, or any OBCmember, by going to http://oldbaseball.com/ then clicking DIRECTORY and using the handy email address links there. Boy, that last sentence had a lot of clauses. So expect a few upcoming announcements, and PLEASE, JUST READ them. First up is the DEALER SCUM server; read about it below. If you have any questions about this or any server, or if you are not subscribed and want to be, email me. I'll do the Facilitator thing and get the right stuff directed to the right folks and whatnot. Aaron Shirley DEALER SCUM Group Description This is the Yahoo Groups home of OBC-DealerScum - a group for OBC members to offer cards for sale to other OBC members. This is an official OBC email group. The OBC-AC recognizes that members periodically sell cards to fund other card purchases or for other non-card needs. Our goal is to provide a forum where members may sell their extra cardsto other members in order to fulfill these needs. The group is strictly limited to OBC members, and any OBC member may opt-in or out of the group email at their discretion. Cards sold between members on this server are not meant for resale. Guidelines & rules for OBC-DealerScum are as follows: 1) Cards for sale must be pre-1981. Also, this is not eBay; cards should bepriced in the spirit that we are a community of collectors, and not tryingto gouge each other. Individual Topps or Bowman commons, or similarly cheap cards that typically flow freely on waiver wires should not be listed. 2) Once an item is posted for sale, all further communication shall be via private e-mail messages between the seller and prospective buyers. 3) At the conclusion of a successful purchase, thanks should be done via private e-mail messages between buyer and seller; parties are asked NOT to post thanks on the OBC-DealerScum email group. In other words, the only postings to OBC-DealerScum should be items for sale. 4) In the event of a dispute, the parties should first try to resolve theirissue among themselves. Any buyer may return an item for a full refund with no questions asked within two weeks of purchase. If the parties are unable to settle a dispute and the buyer does not request a refund, they may take their dispute to the AC. 5) Unless decided upon by the OBC-AC, NO AUCTIONS will be permitted on OBC-DealerScum. ================= To: OBC Ramblings , Dealer Scum Date: Fri, 22 Dec 2017 05:04:51 +0000 Subject: DEALER SCUM guide pt2 From: Aaron Shirley
