I'll monitor the web site to make sure that nothing goes wrong with this server relocation, and will take a backup tonight or tomorrow just in case. For what it's worth, our service from Verio has been pretty much excellent and relatively reasonably-priced. But I get very suspicious when a major change is described as being transparent to the end user - it usually never is. This message serves as a follow-up and reminder to the server move notifications that were sent to you on 2003/12/03 and on 2003/12/10. In an effort to maintain our Uptime Guarantee, the following hosting account(s) will start moving to a new server with updated hardware on 2003/12/17: Note that any changes to this schedule will be communicated to you by way of an e-mail message. *** VERY IMPORTANT *** As a result of this migration, your IP address will change. The new IP address will not be available until after the site is moved on 2003/12/17. After your site is moved you will be able to obtain your account's IP by going to your control panel at http://oldbaseball.com/stats/. Most customers should not have to modify their DNS settings. However, if you manage your own DNS on non-Verio nameservers, you will be required to update oldbaseball.com on 2003/12/17 to the new IP. The new IP address will not be available until after the site is moved. You will be informed of the new address by e-mail or you will be able to obtain your account's IP by going to your control panel at http://oldbaseball.com/stats/. The following server move-related documents go into considerable detail regarding how the server move will affect your web site and your e-mail services. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you read both documents carefully: Server Move Checklist: http://home.verio.com/support/view_article.cfm?doc_id=2266 Server Move FAQ: http://home.verio.com/support/view_article.cfm?doc_id=2267 If you have further questions or need any assistance after reviewing the above-mentioned support pages, please contact Verio's Technical Support Team. If possible, hold off on updating your want lists, etc. until football kickoff time on Sunday, Dec. 21. Our web site's location has been changed (for very good reasons too complicated for me to explain or fully understand). Because of that, our old web site location will have a different "Domain Name Server" identification. That's something else that's hard to explain but you'd recognize it if you see it - the four 3-digit integers, each separated by a dot, which uniquely identifies where our web site can be found. The problem is, it takes 3 days for the changed DNS number to make its way all through the Internet so that everyone who accesses www.oldbaseball.com is directed to the proper site location. I got the following information from our website provider (Verio) support We have good news: your hosting account has been moved successfully to its new web server. Your account's domain information needs to propagate across the Internet. Until that propagation is completed, you must use your new IP address (207.158.230.84) in your e-mail program instead of your domain in order to send and receive e-mail messages. Note that propagation may take up to 72 hours. Your web pages will be available from both servers for a few days until the Domain Name Services (DNS) changes have propagated throughout the Internet. During the propagation period, we recommend that you use your IP address (207.158.230.84) to access your web site through FTP. Your account's new information is as follows: UserID: oldbas Domain name: oldbaseball.com Web server: mmm14 IP address: 207.158.230.84 I'm sure that's perfectly clear to everyone - of course not. Paul Biggs pointed out a problem with his web page showing up as his newer want list instead of his older wantlist. I sent a sample test file to what I thought was www.oldbaseball.com, and it appeared to arrive there, but it is showing up as "missing in action" - which probably means it got to the new website location, but I'm still viewing the old website location. So if we can just keep hands off until Sunday afternoon, things ought to slip right back into place. The facilitator role is to set the agenda for the voting members and report on the OBCAC activities to the group on a monthly basis. This report is not necessarily OBCAC minutes, but a synopsis of last month's business and a call for agenda items for the current month. The facilitator will take into account these proposed items in setting the agenda for each month, allowing the voting members to set the policy. All such reimbursement will be listed in the next annual Treasurer's report. Name: Jason Ursaner Email Address: ursaner@seas.upenn.edu MENTOR - Terry Dietrick Jason should be up and running in a few days - have his want list added to the Directory page - and be able to access the Servers. Once we hear from him feel free to welcome Bob to the group in the usual OBC way! It looks like there are a five more applications on the website (I think Ken's OBC article has brought some of them - one is from Indonesia) - However they will be needing to get some sponsors (one has two of three lined up) and do some more leg work before they will have fulfilled the requirements for their application to move along. So you all can expect some unsolicited inquires in the next month of so from prospective members who want to trade so they can join up - please give their e-mail a look and try to find the time to work something out with any or all who contact you. Thanks! I am sure you all will be hearing from me again in January. HAPPY HOLIDAYS - Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! OBC Membership poll (June 2003) Active members not responding: Ball, Hitzeman, Storman, Sweet Inactive members not responding: Anderson, Gonzalez, Hathcock, Kuhn, Nathan The results of the recent 2003 OBC membership poll are in. Actually, the results have been in for quite some time, but I never got around to doing my part. Geordie Calvert was responsible for the poll this time. According to the OBC Rules of Conduct, we take a poll twice a year to see who wants to stay in OBC. Those who do not respond within a reasonable amount of time are removed from the membership roll. It's unfortunate that we will be losing a few members but these guys are welcome to come back in at any time. The rules about "inactive members" and "returning members" are very accomodating. You are welcome to contact them and encourage them to come back to OBC. The next poll will be taken in January 2004.
